An excellent introductory text for PASCAL newbies, this book employs an interesting technique of couching its lessons in terms of mystery stories involving Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John H. Watson. This technique easily engages Holmes fans in the subject matter, and is very effective at communicating its concepts. It would be interesting to update this material to teach modern programming languages, as the character is still accessible to young readers.
