The Coronavirus.

He’s risking the lives of Biden’s and his supporters by forcing them to go to the public polling place, surrounded by strangers and their germs, to pull the level for who they think will best defeat Trump. And defeating Trump IS a life or death business, so many Democrats WILL do it.

After the results yesterday I was a bit relieved because I assumed Bernie would drop out, and the people of Florida, who are going through an uncontrollable outbreak already, wouldn’t have to put themselves at further risk. And six days from now things will be much worse.

This is not 2016 because we are having a public emergency right this second, and people will actually be risking their lives voting in the primary. I don’t understand why Bernie is acting like this threat isn’t an issue. Most of Biden’s supporters are older and at greater risk of the virus than Bernie’s younger supporters. Does Bernie not care about them at all? Maybe that’s a dumb question, but I didn’t think before today that he cared about them so little he’d put their lives at risk. It’s frankly disturbing.

It’s dangerous out there right NOW, never mind 6 days from now. Bernie needs to drop out.

Have some pie.

I’m not interested in a pie fight. I’m scared to death of the Coronavirus. That’s it.

So am I. Cases are popping up all around where I live in the SF bay area. But I want Sanders to stay at least until the next debate. It should be more informative than the previous shouting matches. Meanwhile, Clyburn wants the DNC to step in and stop the debate. I wonder why.

and that won't be a shouting match?

Good grief!  Are you really saying that Bernie will be responsible for the death of thousands?  Why not cancel the general election and save thousands more?

Not one of your better ideas.

I didn’t say that. You said I said that. He will be responsible for none of that if he drops out before next Tuesday.

And I’m not suggesting canceling the primaries either. I’m suggesting that the fewer people who feel the need to vote in them, the better.

And I would never suggest canceling the general election. Not only do I hope the Virus will have run its course by then, I would crawl over 3 miles of broken glass and monkey vomit to vote against Donald Trump. Even if the virus is still a threat.

Yes, that is the clear implication of what you said in your diary, and once again you are implying in this comment that he will be responsible for those deaths if he does not drop out.  This is nonsense.

You do realize, I trust, that for a great many of us the primary is about much more than the presidential candidate.  I, for instance, have seven contested primaries and two issues in addition to the presidential primary, and all of them matter.

Oh, I am aware of that. I live in Massachusetts and really feel the need to vote for Ed Markey in September. This is about minimizing risks. That’s all.

sounds like voter suppression to me.

I live in Europe and people are starting to take this thing seriously. My country basically shut all public events down indefinitely this week. No indoor gatherings over 100 people, no outdoor gatherings over 500. No more soccer games for the time being, and if they decide to restart the season in April, then without spectators. The ice hockey league in my country just ended its season entirely. This changes everything and I think you’re right — there’ll be no more rallies (at least not on the Democratic a.k.a. sane side) as of probably next week. I think that will contribute to Sanders’ inevitable decision to bow out.

How they plan to organize a general election I don’t know, because I’d be surprised if things are dramatically improved by November, as crazy as that sounds.

Same in Denmark here. Schools closed, bars and night clubs closing down, sports clubs, associations and even religious organizations are asked to suspend all collective activities. And we are very far from the hardest hit country. We haven’t even seen our first fatality yet.

Better cancel the elections and just leave Trump as President until the crisis passes. Otherwise Democrats will be responsible for the death of millions!!!!!

Your reasoning is flawed. Most of Biden supporters are not older. They are from all age groups and walks of life. Quite frankly is simple prudent for all big rallies to be called off for now.

I always feel bad. The diary being bad won’t change that.

Bernie and Joe can run tv commercials do more debates they don’t and should not campaign. We need Bernie running Joe has destroyed all his past campaigns for President all on his own we need Bernie for when Joe does it again.

Yea, no. People should vote. Bernie should stay in at least until after Florida, Illinois and Ohio.

This diary reminds me of when we used to say “if … (yada, yada, yada) … , then the terrorists have won.”

No, I don’t want to see Sanders, or for that matter any candidate, drop out just for this reason.

Many of Sanders’ supporters are young.  They are on instagram, etc.  They don’t need an in-person rally to keep feeling the burn.  That’s more Joe’s MO.  In short, call off in-person rallies, not candidates.  Lol

I just do not understand this impulse to pile on bernie supporters. Just stop. it is not helping. you are not convincing anyone and you are alienating some.

and guess what? I am a floridian and I am not voting for biden in the primary. the end.

and i am not young. and i did not suuprt bernie in 2016, and i am not overly fond of Bernie’s personality, but that is not relevant. just let the primary roll on.
