Didn't see this mentioned here elsewhere so I figured, why not?
Buzzfeed has the story:
John Perry, a prolific author who co-wrote two books with former Arkansas governor and presidential candidate Mike Huckabee and co-wrote one with Alabama Supreme Court Justice Roy Moore, was accused of child molestation in two separate lawsuits, BuzzFeed News has found. These people have quite a racket going on, don't they?A 2012 police investigation of Perry’s alleged offenses found that “the allegations of sexual battery were sustained” but that the statute of limitations had expired.
Perry co-wrote Do the Right Thing: Inside the Movement That’s Bringing Common Sense Back to America about Huckabee’s 2008 presidential campaign. He also did research and writing for Huckabee’s 2007 book Character Is the Issue, a memoir of his early time as governor. Perry also co-wrote So Help Me God, Moore’s autobiographical account of fighting to keep a monument to the Ten Commandments at Alabama’s Supreme Court.

How many Fundies and Wingers will turn a deliberately blind eye or blame the Librul media or whatever?
some trick! I'd like to see how they pull that off.
"You are a hippie and hippies like you preached free love. That, along with the feminazis, has resulted in a situation in which women and girls can do whatever the hell they want, sexually, and has destroyed both the family and the healthy masculinity of the country. Obamacare even makes us all pay for birth control so elite college sluts can have as much sex as they like on the public dime. Gays are getting married now, so the culture is all about sexual desire and not about a man's responsibility to maintain spiritual leadership over his woman and children and provide for them. So instead of supporting the integrity if the family, hippies like you have undermined sexual morality to the point that Christians are an oppressed minority. We all secretly would like to gratify our sexual desires with 11 year olds, and you hippies have undermined and subverted the very social structures and morality that used to keep us in check. So it's actually you, hippie, who is responsible for this moral decline. We are the real victims here."
See how easy that was? I just channeled Ben Carson for you. I'll be here all week, thank you very much!
for the exhibition of GOP mental gymnastics, you really stuck the landing too.
that you can take just as much money, and whatever else you want, from suckers in a tent as you can a church.
More, if you play it right.
Arkansas that needed some help. I've worked in libraries and went over to help them with organization and a fund-raiser.
One day I went in and everyone was all atwitter about "the news".
Huckabee was going on a book tour and if they were LUCKY, he would come for a book signing. The nice ladies were hoping they would get to chat with him and ask questions about his spiritual beliefs, etc.
I decided my work was done. :)
For doing what you do, where you do it.
I hope they're all tied at 3 percent going into the convention.
and is doing the Newt Gingrich run to keep in the public eye and keep his credentials as a presidential candidate buffed. He is tan, rested and ready.
the trick is to campaign without actually announcing you're running. Once you announce you're officially running for the presidency, a bunch of election financing rules kick in which limits what you can do with the cash.
As long as you're just "exploring" the possibility, and maybe beginning to get ready to decide, well then you can raise as much money as you want to. And if you decide not to run, well you get to keep the money.
That's the bigger racket at play right now.
and just turn it to personal use. But in practice. . . .
The people who will really clean up on all this funding, win lose or draw, are the stables full of campaign consultants and ancillary contractors.
What he does NOT forgive is for we the people to collectively decide to heal the sick, feed the hungry and uplift the poor.
I think about this sort of crime, and what comes to mind is that it is simply not normal - a girl of eleven? Sin is something relatable; this is disordered. I have a hard time wrapping my brain around how many pedophiles Huckabee seems to know and hang out with. I don't personally think that Huckabee is a pedophile himself. He could be, I suppose, but it seems darker than that - the very culture he comes from seems somehow infected.
I actually saw some nuance in the Josh Duggar story, more so for Josh at age 14 than 27. If you are a teenager in a cult, raised with a dozen or more siblings cheek by jowl in an enclosed space in which sex is either unacknowledged or distorted, yea, perhaps a 14 year old boy under those conditions of abuse behaves inappropriately. But the state trooper they send him to in order to "straighten him out"? Serving decades for child pornography. It seems like you can't turn around in that particular social millieu and not find yourself face to face with an abuser. And Ted Nugent? I still can hardly explain that one.
I don't think Huckabee stood a chance anyway, but he seems like he should be radioactive now.
It wasn't just the friend the Duggars sent Josh to who was accused of sex abuse, the cop they talked to was too. I think the whole movement Huckabee is involved in is rotten.
diaries on this topic. If you click on the Mike Huckabee tag in you diary, you will see them.
He was after his defense of the Duggar guy, anyway.
There are fundies, and then there are Duggar type fundies. I don't quite know how to explain it?
Umm... Think LDS hating that polygamous Mormons are still part of their religion, and they're tainted by the other group's existence?
It's like that.
You've got your "regular" fundies, and then you've got the quiverfull, and other nutbag sects, and the "normals" don't like the rest of the world to be reminded the extremist sects exist, because it reflects poorly on them.
The "regular" fundies threw them out of their club once it became clear the parents protected the son, and not the daughters. At least the ones I personally know...
For the most part pedophiles are universally hated, that is a topic nearly everyone in the country is in agreement on, and your average fundie wasn't any different...
You don't let anyone hurt your daughters... even if it's your son.
social surroundings. Nothing you've said is a surprise.
This just makes it a little harder to grift...
Mike Fuckaboy needs to have a talk with Jaysus.
in the first place.
is not a public servant.
This goes back way before his recent woes. Matt Z., I think you're right that recent woes can sink him, although for my money, I've distrusted him for some long time before this election cycle.
He's a card-carrying hellfire preacher, not my usual favorite demographic. He's Republican. He's rabidly anti-LGBTQ.
His notion of government is as a functionary answerable to Huckabee's version of fundamentalist Christianity.
To me that is just wildly wrong and dangerous. This is an old distrust of the man on that basis. I don't have much faith in GOP primary voters either, but I hope there is just enough of them to reject this guy's candidacy.
them to see him as a "victim", (as so well explained above) and harden their resolve to vote for him.
Well, that's the bloc he can offer to any other Repugnican to whom he chooses.
Power in his cult.
of fake outrage.
He's delivered a lot of sermons over the years, I guess, and he knows how to work thee crowd.
sleazy late-night ad campaigns, without losing his sanctification. Or something like that.
The only apt comparison is to VA ex-Gov. (now inmate) McDonnell, hawking patent medicines from the governor's mansion.
Folks think that running for president costs a lot of money and leaves people in debt. Not if you do it right.
If you do it right, you can use campaign contributions to pay some of your expenses, provide jobs for your friends and fly around on the borrowed jet of some delusional billionaire. Being in the news makes it easier to get another book deal and land a gig as a Fox contributor and rake in big speaking fees.
There is really no need to spend money on ads or professional consultants since you'll be out after Iowa or NH.
And since you are not trying to win actual votes, you can pander all you want to the lunatic fringe. Those are the idiots who will be buying your books anyway.
When you drop out, you blame the liberal media for lying about you. Hopefully, Hillary will get elected so you can spend the next four to eight years denouncing her and blaming her for the moral decay of the republic.
A-oooo!
and confess that at first read, I thought that Huckabee was attracting support from large- and small-mouthed bass.
In which case he owes us all a serious fish fry.
Preferably one he himself pays for but does not attend.
There are far too many Republican candidates for the press to keep up with the fourth tier.
"Dear Mr. President,
There are too many Republican candidates these days. Please eliminate two.
P.S. I am not a crank."
still exist.
