A growing number of
robotics startups are setting up facilities in Japan.
Shanghai-based
JAKA Robotics (节卡) has opened a development hub with an attached showroom in Toyohashi — the company's second Japanese location, after its sales base in Nagoya.
JAKA also aims to recruit top talent in Japan through exchanges with such educational institutions as the Toyohashi University of Technology, known for its robotics program.
The new site includes a parts warehouse and a production line. This lets the company not only assemble robots, but also customize them for specific purposes prior to delivery. This will shorten lead times for existing clients and improve convenience.
JAKA is exploring setting up a production system in Japan. Businesses such as Toyota Motor group have already begun using products from JAKA, which is now working to build precision robots compliant with safety standards.
Shenzhen-based
Dobot (越疆) opened a Nagoya testing center in June 2024 — its second Japanese facility, after the head office in Tokyo. The center serves as a showroom and provides maintenance services in Japan. Dobot products are around 30% to 40% cheaper than those from Japanese manufacturers.
Suzhou-based
Elite Robots (艾利特) set up a Japanese arm in Nagoya in 2022. It provides technical support through on-site engineers and engages in marketing activities, including trade shows.
