For longtime readers of my blog who have read both Funny Moments in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars (1996: Super Nintendo Entertainment System), Part 1 and Funny Moments in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars (1996: Super Nintendo Entertainment System), Part 2 (Part 3 will be coming soon!), I wanted to highlight similarly amusing moments and secrets during the highly underrated Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest (1988: Nintendo Entertainment System). While Castlevania games are not known for comedy, except for the unintentionally hilarious “What is a man?” moment in the legendary Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (1997: Sony PlayStation 1), which I will review in 2026 or 2027, there are some amusing moments in Simon’s Quest.
Secrets:
Deborah Cliff:
To pass Deborah Cliff, which is required to access Bodley Mansion, Simon has to do the following:
- Activate the Red Crystal, which is done by kneeling before the location shown in the third picture. Doing so for five seconds summons a whirlwind that lifts Simon off the ground and transports him beyond Carmilla Cemetery in front of Bodley Mansion.

“Going under Yuba Lake“
I know this is obscure, but knowing this little tidbit is helpful in Simon’s Quest and other classic video games. Even when playing Doom (1993: MS-DOS), you can look for off colored textures to discover secrets. This tidbit is similar because I am sure most players can see the two green lines in Yuba Lake. These are technically tiles that Simon can walk on when revealed. For reference, the lake is a part of the environment Simon interacts with and has to drain with the Blue Crystal.

Part 3:
I am replaying SIGIL (2019: Windows), which John Romero developed himself. Sigil is the unofficial fifth episode of the original Doom (1993), and I should finish my review by early next week.
