"Go away Marilla, I'm in the depths of despair!" XD Spoken like a true old-fashioned emo.

Marilla seems pleased Anne smashed her slate over Gilbert's head.

“I never wanted a boy. I only wanted you from the first day. Don't ever change. I love my little girl. I’m so proud of my little girl.” 😭

Mathew buying the dress and Anne showing it to him in the barn is one of my favorites.

I dye my hair pretty often, usually odd colours like blue, etc. My mom raised me on these movies when I was a kid; so when I screwed up my first dying fiasco and turned my hair green, the first thing I did was quote this movie 😂 We got a good giggle

2018 that green hair would be totally rocking!!!! 😂

NOT MATTHEW! It always made me so sad that he didn't see his Anne girl grow up into a woman. He would have been proud.

I cried so hard when Matthew died, the actor that played him was so sweet. 😭

From "I can't face him again!" to "I just want you" Jonathan Crombie will always be our Gilbert <3

I love how Marilla was all upset that Anne cracked the slate over a boy's head......until she found out WHICH boy. Then she seemed almost amused and pleased she had done it.

"I'm in the depths of despair..." XD XD XD

Love how Matthew never want a boy after meeting Anne

"I think you may be a kindred spirit after all." Marilla's slight smile and Anne's expression of utter joy just brings tears to my eyes :)

It was at that moment Marilla realised...Anne was the daughter she always wanted but never had. ❤

The real charm of the movie is Crombie's expert and subtle gazing, something that is not properly executed in other Anne remakes. No matter how many times this movie gets remade, I will always go back to this version because the actors perfectly captured the old rustic charm of fleeting romance between Anne and Gil. Furthermore, the last look that Gilbert gave when he hugged her means that he's glad that she was his. I love the subtleties in this version and I will never ever forget how perfect Jonathan and Megan when they portrayed Gil and Anne.

RIP Jonathan Crombie. Thank you for being our Gilbert Blythe.

"Did you hit him really hard?" "Yes, I'm afraid I hit him really ,really hard." Then Marrilla has this coy smile flash across her face and let's Anne know they'll be keeping her. Best moment ever!!! 👏🤗💃🙆‍♀🙋‍♀

I knew from the moment Marilla sat down on the bed with an exasperated sigh Anne was going to stay at Green Gables! She was proud of her girl for breaking the slate over Gilbert's head :-)

This exact same thing happened to me when I was 17! Being a redhead like Anne, I'd always dreamt of "raven black hair " just like Anne....so I put a henna in my hair to turn it black...But to my horror, it turned green!

Jonathan Crombie was everything I imagined Gilbert to be when I read the books as a little girl. He was an exceptional talent. Just the way he looked at Anne showed his longing for her. It's so sad he left this world too young. RIP Jonathan Crombie. The best Gil ever xxx

"It's not what the world holds for you, it what You bring to It." Perfection. Perfect cast. Perfect soundtrack.

"Gilbert hurt my feelings excruciatingly, Diana.".... this line from Anne says it all.

My “life movies.” Every time I watch them, I want be a better person, love more, dream more, live more. They’re just so pure and wholesome and align you to what really matters.

Anne is precious. There's a little bit of her in every girl. I'm glad I can still watch these movies and read the book after all this time.

I am 50 now and still cry over Matthew dying. He was such a sweetheart. 😢 some things never change.

I cried so hard when Matthew died 😢 he loved her so much

The soundtrack, the actors, the locations, the acting, the direction - I loved every bit of this movie.
36
When he says, "Don't ever change", I lose it every time.
28
Marilla realized that Anne needed stability and a real home.
35
The music was perfect! So moving! The acting was divine and masterful. Ugh how movies have changed :/

"I'm so proud of my little girl.." WWHHYY😭😭

I always love how though Marilla was annoyed about the slate incident she also seemd to start to realize that Anne had some problems, that and she probally also agreed that Gilbert slightly deserved it. I also love how you seems to genuianly feel bad for Anne when she reveales her hair.
32
This is the best version of Anne of Green Gables. I first watched this in Elementary School and enjoyed NOT because it was FREE time at school, but because the movie was awesome with intriguing story and brilliant acting.
28
I think one of my favorite moments about Anne's green hair comes while Marilla is cutting it and Matthew says, "You're our girl now."
17
The way Gilbert holds her. It is so beautiful, gentle and respectful and tender.🥺😍
13
I'm a grown man and own the entire DVD set.. Also an English major so this is always good tonic for what ails ya!

I love how he says, "I knew you could do it." Jonathan Crombie will always be our Gilbert <3

My mom fell in love with this movie when she first married my dad (who's canadian lol) so I was lucky enough to grow up with this series and the books in my life. It really shaped my childhood with it's simple beauty from the story to the picture to the music. Now I'm going to have my own child and you can bet shes going to grow up knowing the beauty of this film as well
