Trump is reportedly accepting a $400 million jet from Qatar while still in office. His legal team says it’s legal because the jet is being “donated” to his presidential library foundation. That doesn’t make it legal. It just makes it look like corruption wrapped in paperwork. He still benefits. He is still the sitting president. The Constitution’s Emoluments Clause prohibits federal officials from accepting gifts from foreign governments without Congressional approval. No such approval has been given.
Pam Bondi, who is now Attorney General, previously lobbied for Qatar at $115,000 a month. She is now involved in reviewing the legal justification for this deal. That’s a blatant conflict of interest. She can’t be expected to objectively assess a gift from the same regime that was paying her not long ago.
Even some MAGA voices are alarmed. Laura Loomer said, “I would take a bullet for him, but I have to call a spade a spade.” Mark Levin has raised concerns about Qatar’s ties to Iran. Erick Erickson called it foreign influence.
Yet not a single Republican in Congress, not one MAGA-aligned representative, has publicly opposed this. Total silence. No one wants to be the first to say that this violates the Constitution. If they let this happen, then the Emoluments Clause is just dead text.
