Some things belong together, the one with the other, natural pairs. Sherlock Holmes and John Watson. Holmes and Watson. Sherlock and John. Whether it's in an empty house during the Blitz, a West London strip club in the 70s, or deep in the heart of a Hong Kong computer lab, the meeting of these two legendary men is inevitable. Spanning one hundred and twenty-eight years, here are the stories of that destiny. Of how a detective meets a doctor, of how they change each other in heart and mind. Of how they fall in love.

I am a huge Sherlock Holmes and John Watson fan. I have read Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's canon stories as well as many beginner and more seasoned authors works. I have never encountered a style of writing quite like this! Unique and fresh, each story is a different take on how Sherlock and John could have met. I myself believe that Sherlock and John or Holmes and Watson (if that's how you roll) had romantic feelings for one another. I love Atlin's ability to gently unfold the possibility of what could blossom between the boys within each short story. There is depth of character but also a familiarity that a fan will recognize. It's clever and funny and I enjoyed it immensely.

Atlin Merrick is a unique and lyrical voice in the world of Sherlock Holmes: outrageous, whimsical humor; tender regard; circuit-breaking sexiness; heartwrenching drama...she can do it all with a style all her own. This book covers all of the above, and has the bonus of soul-deep affection for the characters that have captivated the world for 130+ years. This time, Sherlock and John (yes, it's time they are first names to each other!) go on adventures that could only be told now, and those adventures are warm and passionate and full of promise.

Oh, yes. I love this book. I love everything Atlin Merrick writes. And I'm crazy-happy that Improbable Press is bringing us such gems!!!

I enjoyed sitting down to eat breakfast and read a chapter or two a day. Sometimes the writing style was hard for me to follow, but besides that this book was wonderfully varied and yet retained the continuity of the Sherlock Holmes universe and characters and references. Well done. I looked for more publications but couldn't find any besides "The Day They Met". FOR SHAME! haha some of those teaser-chapters at the end of other authors' works looked SO GOOD. I would have bought those stories up in a heartbeat. Just saying. ;)

I love this book. Five stars aren't enough for how much I love it, actually. A couple of the stories made me cry, a couple made me giggle, and every single one made me smile and sigh happily. I think the best summation is this: I've *never* read a book of short stories where there wasn't one or more that I didn't like. Until now. Every single story in this collection is brilliant. My only problem was trying to ration it out and make it last instead of sitting down and reading it all in one gulp. Sherlock fans--regardless of *which* Sherlock--buy this book. You can thank me later. (Okay, I just realized I lied there. I loved every single story in _The Day They Met_ too.)

Atlin Merrick's last book, The Day They Met (as Wendy C Fries) told 50 perfect little stories about alternative ways fiction's great detective and his best friend and biographer may have met. This time, the interpretation is 19 alternatives ways they met and fell in love. Either way, they are a perfect partnership.

These stories are set across time, from the Victorian and Edwardian eras, the Great War and the Blitz, to the latter half of the 20th century and beyond.

Each story has its own take - some funny, some filled with delightful cases, some heart wrenching and every single one full of wit, heart and soul.

Atlin Merrick honestly does a beautiful job with characterizing and with letting the words just flow. All of the stories are so well thought-out, are gorgeously written, and have quite a bit of humor thrown in here and there as well. The writing makes it feel so real. The emotion has such depth. This book is simply phenomenal, especially if you are a Sherlock Holmes fan! I definitely recommend this book, and while you're at it, don't forget to check out The Day They Met, which is just as brilliant!

Oh I love it! How do I love it? Immensely! Atlin Merrick's style of writing is very distinctive and to read anything written by her is pure joy. It doesn't matter if you like something more of an angsty (hurt/comfort) story such as A Crying Shame or something sweeter like Dear John Letter, it is always such a pleasure to turn a open this book and just read. And even if you didn't like one story (for whatever weird, unbelievable reason), there are others to read and every one of them is gold. I LOVE IT.

Friendship? Epic romance? Soul mates? True love? Yes please!

This collection of 19 short stories has all that in spades. The fact that the two principle characters are Sherlock Holmes and John Watson, well, can you imagine one without the other? That they fall in love make them even better. And by "them" I refer to both the stories and the men in them - they are two puzzle pieces who fill in each others missing bits.

Atlin knows there can be no place or time that these two don't meet and she happily shares her re-imaginings with us. From Victorian London to a future in Hong Kong, Holmes and Watson meet and fall in love. She knows her boys well and whether they are chasing through catacombs, sheltering in an empty house during the Blitz or fighting over the last pastry, Sherlock will deduce and John will heal. And they will fit.

    Puzzle solved.

In the very vast panorama of Sherlock Holmes pastiches, whoever says we don't need any more of those is, in my opinion, a fool. And I am glad there are authors lIke Atlin Merrick around, to prove this time after time, like she has done with this beautiful book. Every single one of these stories is a little gem, an inventive and incandescent what-if brought to life, to shine and show us that, as one of her titles say, Sherlock Holmes and John Watson were, are and always will be Inevitable.

A perfect companion book to the Day They Met. A tale as old as time to quote a well known film song. Various stories of two of the most well known characters in fiction who meet up and fall in love in various scenarios. A veritable banquet . A story of two men against the rest of the world , two iconic characters . To quote Vincent Starrett ,
" Here, though the world explode, these two survive, And it is always 1895"

A terrific concept has been turned into an intriguing and entertaining read. What this collection proves is that Sherlock Holmes and John Watson are eternal and that their friendship and romance will flourish wherever and whenever they meet. Those of is who are true believers have always known this and it is great fun as well as touching to see it so creatively illuminated. Kudos to the author for her talented portrayal of the beloved characters and gratitude to the publisher for bringing us this book. More, please!
