AN MP has sent congratulations to Bradford City on their promotion – but eagle-eyed football fans spotted something amiss.

Labour MP for Bradford West Naz Shah put up a post on her Facebook page yesterday afternoon which praised the Bantams for their “historic promotion”.

It said: “Massive congratulations to Bradford City AFC on their historic promotion!

“A proud day for the Bantams and Bradford”.

It came after Graham Alexander’s men secured promotion to League 1 at the eleventh hour on the final day of the season, thanks to a 96th-minute goal from Antoni Sarcevic to beat Fleetwood Town 1-0 and sending the Valley Parade faithful into pandemonium.

Fans celebrated on North Parade late into the night and were back out again on Tuesday evening for a bus parade which ended with the players and management leading chants and addressing a large crowd of supporters in City Park from the pavilion area above the Cake’ole Café.

Ms Shah’s post included a graphic which featured an image of herself, her title, a message of congratulations, and an image of a football ground in the background.

But some fans spotted something wasn’t quite right with the background image.

Ms Shah said in response to this: “Bradford City FC being promoted to League One is something everyone across Bradford is celebrating — whether they’re football fans, loyal supporters of the club, or simply proud of their local team.

“The office used a stock image blurred in the background in the celebratory post, but more than any other, this moment is a source of immense pride for the entire city."

“The celebrations across Bradford have been incredible, and I hope the club’s success continues into next season.”

The post has since been updated to include a picture of Bradford City players lining up in front of a crowd at Valley Parade.
