Mr. T. Hara. -3- August 24, 1914 This morning’s newspapers advise us of Japan’s declaration of war against Germany, and this doubtless means that the German possessions in China, and, especially those at Tain-Tao, will eventually come under the protection and care of your government. I earnestly hope that no loss of life will follow this notion, and I trust that if the war should spread through the Province will be destroyed during the war. The United States of course is being affected very greatly by the terrible war now being waged in Europe, and I am glad to say that our government and the citizens of our country are seemingly doing their very best to maintain strict neutrality. Yourself and family, and Mr. And Mrs. Nomura and their family are all enjoying the best of health, I hope. With kindest wishes to you all, I remain, very sincerely yours.
