I’ve tried, yes.
But, npc’s make me break laws.
Visualize this.
You just bought a new car that you been saving up for. You bought the most expensive upgrades for it. Your paint job looks sleak, your tires look good, now it’s time you take it for a spin (of course without breaking the laws).
The city is fun for awhile, but you want to really see what your ride can do. It’s time to hit the highway.
You’re enjoying the drive and it’s straight road, no silly turns or bothersome stop lights. What could go wrong, right?
EVERYTHING

No you didn’t grow wings, but you did fly.
In turn, if I survive this happens.
(Pictures are not mine)
To sum it up.
Being a good law-abiding citizen doesn’t work well for me.
Edit: I made this answer almost 3 years ago! Real life and Gta laws are different + its a different universe BASED off reality, yet not exactly the same. So no speeding isn’t illegal in the game.
Do cops ever chase you for speeding? Do you ever get stars for speeding? Nooo
I had to add this edit because I keep seeing comments saying I broke the law by speeding.
Oh yes. Oh yes I have.
I’ve even finished the game without stealing a single vehicle or killing anyone outside missions. This means a lot of walking and taking cabs.
And of course I stop at red lights.
This wasn’t even something I actively tried to do, it’s just the way I prefer to play the game. I feel the overall storyline makes more sense if the characters act normal outside the missions. It also makes it more rewarding to buy new cars and other vehicles.

Yes.
I shouldn’t say I jumped a hole in the sky. It’s relatively boring. It doesn’t leave you with any objective. I’ve tried to do this with all GTA titles. Turned out Grand Theft Auto Online (and not its single-player counterpart Grand Theft Auto V) was most appropriate for not breaking any laws. You have the ability to play as your own character. Yourself, so to speak. There are more facilities to succeed in the goal, as there’s an endless amount of real-life everyday stuff to concern yourself with than in older titles. The biggest problem is that you’re typically not living your own life in those games. You’re living a life you can’t determine (for GTA that would be Carl Johnson, Niko Bellic, Michael De Santa, Franklin Clinton, Trevor Philips, Toni Cipriani, Tommy Vercetti, Vic Vance and others). You follow their adventures by performing as them. And that way, you’re always playing someone else. They’re not you. You become them, but they are never “you”. If you know what I mean. It’s a scripted story and world. You’re supposed to act accordingly in order to complete objectives. The protagonists have always been a part of storylines which include various types of crime.
Once you start obeying the law while playing those games, you’ll immediately encounter on an inequivocal stalemate. Not breaking the law, being the exemplary human, results in an everlasting tedious mush. It will take an eternity, and soon, you will be wasting your precious time. You play for hours and hours, but it doesn’t get you anywhere. The open worlds fail bone-dry in giving a response to your good behaviour, too. They don’t react to this. Pedestrians and the like. That’s because the games have never been programmed to provoke such good behaviour. In GTA, you’re not penalised for ignoring a red light, overtaking a car from the right side and/or exceeding speed limits. There are no fines issued by public authorities. There’s nothing small-scale to keep yourself out of trouble.
Thus, it gets long-winded pretty fast. Besides, you’ll notice that you’re not really doing anything. You’re just running around, driving around for absolutely no reason at all. You don’t need to pay for gas because of the absence of earnings from employment. There’s no “know your place and responsibility in society” kind of situation. This generates a natural reaction within people: “I don’t have to account for myself”. In GTA, one earns money almost entirely out of a criminal organization. Generally, criminal deeds.
The original concept of the game is to wreak havoc and murder (innocent) people. The parallel with real-life is completely missing, since in real-life you’re not supposed to kill your fellow man. It’s immoral and wrong. Hence the confrontational thought “We are free to murder in GTA”. When you come to consider it all further, we’re actually going against our humane duties.
Peace.
Yes I have, I tried to do the simplest responsible thing and stop at stop lights while driving a taxi in the single player mode (Got to make sure my fare is safe right?!)
Anyway, it turns out that I had no idea that if the taxi is stopped long enough, your passenger will get out, and you will lose out on that fare.
I shot the AI passenger for being so stupid, and never tried to be law-abiding in the game again.
In online play I love wearing a cycling outfit, cracking out the racing bike and cycling around the hills. This confuses the crap out of some players, most of whom kill me instantly once they see me on the bike (no cash on me, suckers !) I have made it all the way to the top of the map a few times.
What I really love is the odd player that drives by, stops, comes back, then drives off and leaves me to it.
I’ve read reports of reviewers that hate violent games, but have been forced to review a copy of GTA that do the same, just jump on a bike and ride. It is an outstanding biking simulator, and v

I was asked to answer: “ have you ever tried to play GTA 5 without breaking laws?”
Yes I have! It was quite a fun experience.
In a virtual world there are only so many things you can do but, I made sure to drive safely and avoid using my weaponry. I found it really hard to not J-Walk (what's more fun than running in front of cars).
You really can't play any missions either if you're playing legally so most of my time was spent doing leisurely activities such as:
- Flying vehicles and landing them safely
- Going to the club
- Getting wasted on my yacht
- Smoking weed legally ;)

So, while I found it fun to do this, I will admit that it defeats the purpose of GTA.
Also, don't try this in the story mode… there's almost nothing to do but invest.
The best I've done is not pick up prostitutes, but I have killed them and picked up like $30 from them, only because my mom always tells me to “kill some hookers” before I dive into my binge. Other than that, I try not to kill any women intentionally, but accidents do happen, people do play as women online (which I primarily play), and some NPCs are women that will attack you in certain missions, making their deaths inevitable (not like anyone else's death is). Other than that, I don't see the point in playing GTA without breaking laws. Gotta have that money flowing through somehow.
Self sadist in other words. Doesn't make any sense since peds in gta tends to attack you if you just stand on the sidewalk as Trevor. Sometimes they get pissed on Franklin and Michael also depending on the area, clothing and time of day. So if someone attack you, you call cops and let them hit you so the cops shot them attacking you or just avoid peds in the game all together.? Sounds boring to just do missions and not explore the mechanics of the game when just roaming around. Lot's ways to interact with peds like getting them pissed in front of cops or get them attack others. I use grabthrow

Carry them to a secluded alley and then murder them with a axe. 😁
Haven't we all? I have a few times when I just can't be bothered to actually play GTA V and I just drive slow and stop at red lights etc. Since I play on PS4 now I've tried it in first person. What I can say about that is the cars sound much better in first person than third person.
I’ve tried over and over.
here’s the story.
scenario 1: I am now a changed man. I’ve just gotten new shoes some new jeans and a jacket. I’m feeling good as I walk out the store aaaaaaaaand a police car hits me. Remember IT HIT ME! After that I got shot in my face with a shotgun and blood all over my new forces.
Scenario 2: I’m driving in my newly washed car and someone t bones me. The answer is simple in this situation. I get out. Grab the person out of their vehicle. I then proceed to equip the hammer. You can imagine the rest.
I dont know but in GTA 5 I seem to have uncontrollable anger issues.
Thanks for the A2A.
I have not, however of the first times I saw GTA III being played, it was by a Japanese co-worker who couldn’t figure out how to complete a mission within the time allotted, because he was stopping for all the red traffic lights.
I saw a youtube video of a real cop playing it without violating any laws and I was like “I can do that! How hard can it be!!?”
I succeeded for about 5 minutes before it got boring. Then next thing I know I’m in a shooting rampage.
If you consider GTA laws, they are a bit different. Some laws that exist in the game world that do not exist in real life, and vice versa. I remember trying to do this but it was really hard. I set up a whole agenda. To make money from the stock market, while that’s going on drive to my garage, get my new car, ride it to the top of the map, and things like that. However it wasn’t easy. At one point I was just driving up Rockford Hills when a random NPC came in a sports car and just randomly rammed into me. I had to drive back to Los Santos Customs to repair my car.

After that episode, I started going back up my way so I could reach Grapeseed, but it was really hard for me to not drive fast on the highway that connects Sandy Shores and Los Santos. I have always driven at like 120km/h every time I get to that particular highway, but this drive was unusual. It took like 15 minutes for me to get used to not speeding. After that I started diving and got to my destination.
I also couldn’t hang of flying my helicopter straight, without cutting close to buildings easily. So yeah, it’s hard after playing the game with crimes almost since it came out.
Have you ever tried to play GTA V without breaking laws?
Yes a few times in fact. I, however soon found myself going back to running stop lights and going the wrong way down a road. The game is made to break the law. The AI doesn’t plan on you not running the stop light/stop sign.
It also doesn’t help that aside from golf and tennis you have very little I the way of side activities. I kind of hope GTA6 gives us something along the lines of Grand Theft Auto San Andreas. That game had a ton of things to do aside from the story.
You could race eat fast food go to the gym you name it you had it.
Yes… Multiple times, actualy. But it’s actualy realy hard. Not even NPC’s in GTA V abide to the law.
I do all the time on GTAO friends only sessions.I run my nightclub, arcade, auto shop, bike modification business in my MC clubhouse and the the taxi service.
It's actually quite nice not having to run from the cops or be shot at. I’ve pretty much followed Michael's footsteps and quit causing murder and mayhem.
Yes and it wasn’t fun at all
I mean, I did it on Red Dead, I can do it on there too. It’ll be less epic but the immersion is outstanding. You’ll start to see the potential that Rockstar has. There are ways to make money. One trick is to get shot at first. If they die and drop cash, finder’s keepers. One Red Dead you just do favors and get a job.
GTA 6 might have something like that.
You can log in to GTA online and walk around, not interacting with anything. If you were dedicated enough you could probably do enough of the few nonviolent missions(races, mostly) to buy a bike or car and drive/ride that around. I don't know that I would really call it “playing the game“. I suppose you could just do nothing but racing missions ever. If you play the story mode you start in the middle of a bank heist that requires you to kill dozens of people, so absolutely no way there.
If you wanted to do that you could just stop playing and continue living your life.
The whole point of the GTA series is that it allows you to be a criminal without consequences.
It's designed to let you do what you wouldn't normally be able to do in the real world, it just says “hey look do whatever you want but don't push your luck or you'll get put in a virtual prison”
But you can pay bail for it 10 seconds later 🤣.
No
Very first thing you do is commit armed robbery, aggravated assault, multiple counts of murder/homicide/something along those lines, speeding, even more deaths, whatever crime taking a hostage is, evading police officers, it’s legitimately impossible
GTA5, as with any games in the GTA series, is a Crime Simulator. The whole point of the game is to get ahead by committing crimes. Sure, you could go around and just get RP by doing various things and being a nice guy, but you will never advance far in the game. Also, in GTA Online, you mark yourself as an absolute target by just about everyone in any lobby.
So, get the game and have fun with it.
Yes, but not the campaign. There’s a youtuber who’s doing a challenge to identify the most pacificist way to play the campaign, and has found several enemies you have to kill. Not to mention, just playing the campaign begins with committing crimes, so maybe you’d be better off online (i guess you could play golf / races and such).
Nope.
I don’t think you can smash up shops for protection money without alerting the cops.
Or intimidating witnesses.
Beating up protesters.
Sneaking onto military bases and stealing hardware.
Sabotaging a dam.
Heists.
Dealing
Driving while high or drunk
Using a gunship to attack your enemies in a high-rise building..
NO way. It’s NOT impossible in GTA 5 because even in the second mission : Franklin and Lamar, you automatically have 2 stars wanted level + NO way to avoid it, in the next missions, you MUST kill Vagos NPCs (wasted !) ! In GTA Online, you must do bank robbery, killing bad guys to take the cocaine, racing (not stop at traffic lights,… !)… at the very beginning of the game ! NO way !
Maybe, I mean I'm sure you could figure out a way if you really wanted… But the title of the game in question is literally “Grand Theft Auto.” So if you don't want to commit any crimes, then my suggestion would be to fire up Farmville or The Sims or something instead lol.
I tried, but whenever I switched to Franklin, he always had 5 stars while just walking down the street.
No
most of the missions will have wanted level sooner or later
Nope. It's not weird at all.
GTA (or at least the later games) are set in such way that not only it gives you the option to follow the law, the open-world aspect of the game is more “peaceful" if you don't cause too much mayhem.
I tried to follow the laws whenever I can when play GTA (or other open world games). For me, it's easier that way. I don't intentionally run over people, I buy and drive my own car whenever I can, I don't kill hookers for their money, and if I'm drunk, I call a taxi, or I walk until the effect wear off.
I don't consider it fun to have cops chasing after me. Even with stor

A lot of people think GTA encourages people to commit crimes and violence. That's not the case at all. GTA open world simply gives you that option and doesn't give you too much of a penalty if you choose to do violence. That's all.
In other words, you can say GTA is a test environment, to see what people would really do when there's no (or very little) consequences.
If some people think it is fun to find a prostitute, purchase their service and then kill them for money, it is not the game that makes them do it. They wanted to do it themselves. Granted, the NPCs are just polygons and codes. But still, nobody forces them to do it. And you're certainly not weird if you choose not to.
By what definition do you mean complete? There isn’t an end credits or final mission to an online multiplayer experience. If you mean “making it out big” in Los Santos as a multi millionaire, it is possible to make money legitimately so to speak. Absolutely not.
- Just the very first epilogue mission you are already robbing banks as Michael and Trevor.
- You then jack cars as Franklin, Michael commits a threat to murder, hurt Simeon with the option to pop him.
- You robbed banks and assisted murder for practically the whole game of GTA.
- You practically commits murder and homicide about 99% of the game especially when you play as Trevor.
- You routinely steal cars and steal other commodities for heist preps.
- You overtly fought against the law and murdered cops and agents of either the FIB or the CAA especially late game.

Plenty of times even without missions.
Besides “letting loose”,I also do not have the patience to bear with the AI's programming so I drive like a maniac to get to where I want to FAST.
It's as simple as that.
Wished real life could be like that though.

Nope. I've always speeded. Also, I occasionally take an NPC's car if I want a different car from my garage.
Yes I did.
I always play all the games without cheat the first time, and then with cheats. I find the game is more interesting when played without cheats.
Btw, I may have played GTA San Andreas more than 10 times without cheats :D
I have all the cutscenes memorized :D
GTA Online lacks the story elements to make an arrest and its aftermath effective or fun.
Unlike in story mode or missions, there are no cut scenes, no checkpoints, no standard resources like weapons or vehicles, and most importantly, no other human players to cause you problems.
You can't get dropped off at the police station, with a funny cut scene where you get a friend or lawyer who bails you out. Possibly with your weapons temporarily confiscated.
You don't wake up at the hospital, possibly, again, with your weapons temporarily confiscated.

Unless you are doing a job where being caught by the police is failure, you simply pop back into the game, with all your stuff, just the same as if you died from any other cause.
The only police consequence in normal free mode is your personal vehicle getting impounded. You are free and clear to do whatever you want, but you must either steal your car back, or pay to get it back.
Or let it be destroyed, and pay insurance if you have it to get it back.
Overall, in free mode the police are just another dangerous obstacle on the map.
It can be fun to engage them and see how long you can survive with five wanted stars. This is even tracked on your career stats page.

Well because that would say that’s all okay and who wants that.
- The Strip Clubs and I believe I don’t have to go there though I sadly will. The Strip Clubs are little bit different than real life and you don’t get the “pleasures” as in a real one because who wants to show kids that are allowed by parents to experience that at an early age. If you thought about it then you can say the kid may be scarred or be fine but expect questions
- Schools can be used in the game to say shooting up a school is okay so the makers took those out and can say they probably wanted them in there but they did their research and had to keep them out
- It requires leaving Los Santos, which is the place you’re playing on from beginning and mostly to end, one time only and that’s when you chase another character you can play as out of the total 3.
- Reasons as to why you can’t just leave that location is:
- You want to commit terrorism and tell your child it’s okay to do that
- You want to just do things like with 9/11 during 9/11/2001 over there in New York (I don’t think so)
- You want to just nuke a town or location saying once a child is in the military later in life they are given a choice to use that nuke they have access to and just blow some place up. I say no because that location might be mine
I know this is short but I’ll add more later but that’s starters return later today (October, 8, 2019) for updated version of the list
Finally returned to update this answer as of October 9, 2019 I added 3 and to 7 and the reasons of why you can’t just leave that map you’re given to do who knows what
I do realize there are more to this answer but it’s common sense because as far as I know this is the only game close enough to our time of life. Also some of the answers may not be entirely accurate because what Officer in the military allows a person who will think destruction with a nuke is fun?
(The officers that believe that soldier is ready for that responsibility a bit too early)
Officers in the military and don’t quote me on this but will probably explain that orders will be given by the Commander in Chief (President of the U.S.), backed up by Congress, to use a nuke where it’s needed and only where it’s needed. They may just say location and here’s a nuke now you know what to do with it but in a more ordering someone voice. If not explained beforehand then ask after and they may tell you why that was needed to be done if they’re not busy but as I said don’t quote me on this
Well this concludes the answer but if you want more then send me the game for PS4 and I’ll replay it and tell you more (Joking please don’t do that save your money)
Apart from the fact that you literaly pull off multiple heists, steal, kill many people, and literally torture someone for fun, it’s fine and not inappropriate in the slightest…

You drive in your car, making no money. Actually, not even that. Enjoy walking through the streets of LS, since there isn’t a way to make money using a “legit” job, and even to get a car, you need to steal it.
Now, if you mean “How do I play GTA 5 online without attracting the cops”, don’t kill people, drive slowly, and do as little to attract attention as possible.
It’s possible, but very unlikely, as security would be tighter on a bank, you couldn’t escape the cops anywhere near as easily, and you would be hunted for a very, very long time, you can’t just put down loads of cops and seconds and 1000 later be able to drive by the station with them ignoring you like people usually ignore me,
If you mean, can you sneak past cops during any kind of mission, no, this is GTA, Grand Theft Auto, stealth has never been a thing in GTA, but if you mean, get rid of them, yes, call up Lester and ask him to bribe the cops, poof, they are gone, if it's a import export mission in online then it's not possible to do it, because they are automatically called on you when you grab whatever it is you were meant to grab, if you mean avoid them via vehicle through the streets, yes, in fact the best place is mount chiliad, cops and helicopters won't follow you up there as easily, and you can see the co

I enjoy the character progression more, without cheating the game. It makes the moments when you discover a weapons more satisfying, additionaly it creates tension because your trying to amass a functional arsenal, and if you die/arrested you start over from zero.
No, if you drive backwards you’re fine. As long as you don’t bump a police car or run somebody over and get a wanted star.
you don’t actually get pulled over and busted in V. If you break the law you just get shot until you are dead.
It’s very realistic
No, I do it too sometimes.
Eventually driving around wildly gets boring after a while because you do it all the time. Driving with pretend laws makes it more interesting and makes the world feel more fulfilling and real. I even make sure I have lower health to make it more realistic.
Via vehicle, quiet often, they will be spotted at intersections on the road, behind or in front of your vehicle, to tell if it is the same cop following you, simply look at the police number at the top of the car, every number is different. on foot, cops are never around, unless at a police station, around a hospital, and fire station. You want to know something you probably didn't know, not only are cars always out to spot you punch someone but helicopters to, you are more likely to be spotted from a police helicopter then a police car
Now it is. For some reason, I can still play it online without PS Plus, even though the “online multiplayer is free to all players" thing just passed. I have no idea why.
this is pathetic, i bought gta 5 original retail version from Amazon in 2014 and now it's 2017 and i still can't play it due to this 8.9 gb update (yes... now it's 8.9 gb in 2017). wish i had got a pirate copy. i just want to play offline i will never buy their future gta 6 and i will tell by friends to pirate Rockstars every game
Oh yeah its very appropriate its an open world and you can randomly kill people you can basically start your own Massacre
They can, it's just a little bit harder to do then get chased, and stand there, just simply get in a vehicle and let a cop come to the door and open it, you will automatically be arrested
Unfortunately, Tommy was never in GTA 5. In Vice City he was in prison because he was ordered to kill a mobster, but was ambushed and had to kill 11 men. This led to his arrest for multiple murders and was sent to prison. Since Tommy refused to provide any information, the Forelli family was able to reduce Tommy's sentence to just 15 years.
