Tower of Trials v2.03.1 release; hotfix + v2.03 changes (minor QoL, bugfixes):

  • New feature: When using the "Custom" rules preset, pressing "Y" when hovering most run settings will randomly pick one of the available options. Doing so when hovering the "Preset" option itself will randomize most settings all at once.
  • QoL changes:
    • Intensity raised slightly for the Countdown Timer setting, changing from 10% to 15% at its lowest setting (the threshold required for completing the related achievement has also been increased accordingly).
    • Slightly improved the wording on achievements requiring that the player not use any individual settings that reduce Intensity.
  • Bugfixes:
    • Allergic Hyper Bob-ombs are no longer able to Charge when using their angered attack.
    • One of the bosses' special attack can now properly be guarded or Superguarded by the character in the back if the front character is missed.
    • (Vanilla fix) Flower Fuzzies now retain their max FP after stealing a held badge (+v2.03.1 hotfix - and midbosses no longer have normal enemies' HP stat!)
    • (Vanilla fix) Flipped enemies now retain their stunned status when KO'd while holding a Life Shroom.
    • The smoke effect no longer appears around where the Save Block should appear in the tower, if they are disabled.

v2.02 release; bugfix + QoL improvements primarily for new players:

  • Bugfix: Partners are no longer unobtainable if you select all of their moves via the "Custom Starting Moves" option.
  • Added a notification icon on the "Journal" menu tab if you have an achievement ready to unlock.
  • Added a small help window to the battle interface when hovering over a move that can have its level changed.

v2.01 release; a couple of minor but critical bug fixes:

  • Goombella's Multibonk and Ironbonk now correctly deal damage matching their own selected level, instead of each other's.
  • Running out of Crystal Stars to pick with the "Move Limit" setting will no longer spawn fake Strange Sacks, and if you have one from a previous run, it will no longer appear in your important items menu.

Tower of Trials v2.00, a major content update, is now released!

Note: Save files will still carry over from v1.xx saves, but cannot be reverted to an earlier version after updating.

Changelist:

  • Added 10 new achievements, and reworked a few existing achievements to make them more flexible to attain. Some older achievements have also had their clear conditions updated to reflect newly added content, or had slight clarity improvements made to their descriptions.
  • Added 6 new cosmetic rewards.
  • Added new unlockable run options:
    • Move Availability - Changes the way moves are awarded in the tower:
      • Default
      • Partners get +1 move pick when you first get them.
      • Jump, hammer and partner moves get offered in random order.
    • Move Limit - Limits the number of moves of each type you can take.
    • Stage Hazards - Change the frequency or types of stage hazards that can appear.
    • Run Away Chance - Guarantee being able to flee from battle.
  • Added NPCs / interactions:
    • General White's appeared in town! Try doing speedrun achievements to learn about his secret plans!
    • Once you've gotten to try out every move in the game, talk to the moves enthusiast in East Petalburg for a special reward!
  • Balance changes:
    • Sweet Treat now offers 8 HP+FP, 12 HP+FP, or 16 HP+FP at maximum, based on the move's level.
    • Goombella's moveset has been swapped around; Multibonk is now a tier-1 move, and Ironbonk is a tier-2 move.
    • Appealing SP regen has been slightly rebalanced; a base Appeal will yield 0.40-0.80 based on size of audience, and Super Appeal (P) adds 0.40 per copy, rather than 0.25-0.75 + 0.50 per.
    • Mario and partners' "Defend" action (and Toughen Up (P), by extension) now acts as a straight damage reduction, like guarding, rather than granting temporary Defense.
    • Quick Change's maximum FP cost has been reduced from 5 to 3.
    • Pretty Lucky now has a 12.5% hit reduction rate instead of 10%, to make it slightly more viable filler and no longer strictly inferior rate-wise to Lucky Day.
    • Double Dip BP cost changed from 4 to 3.
    • Slightly reduced coin cost of Return Postage and the Happy Heart/Flower badges, and slightly increased coin cost of the HP/FP Drain badges.
    • Space Food can now be used on any target, like Vivian's Neutralize.
    • Slightly tweaked a few run settings' Intensity values.
    • Wonky will now only accept a limited number of items per appearance.
    • Zess T. will no longer let you know the results ahead of time when cooking a Mystery.
    • Requirements for some specialty Zess T. recipes were altered slightly.

v1.16 release; minor fixes / changes:

  • Unlockable option bugfix:
    • Click for spoiler Changing "Secret Boss" option no longer disqualifies the player from "finish with N stats at zero" achievements.
  • Removed vestigial feature from Infinite Pit where pressing Z toggles off enemy ATK/DEF display, since it was a cause of confusion for players going for Tattle completion, and always displaying it isn't that distracting.
  • Infatuate is no longer prevented from being used again if a previously Infatuated Pider/Arantula dies.
  • Improved description wording on the "win with all of your moves maxed out" achievement.

Tower of Trials v1.15 r43

v1.15 release; one unlockable option moved outside of presets, and a few other minor changes:

  • Slightly reduced the frequency of all Piranha Plants' breath attacks, and likelihood of Frost Piranha's standard attack inflicting Freeze. (It still will not break the target out of Freeze early, though.)
  • Signs in lobby / in tower now correctly show the selected seed in red only if it was manually selected.
  • Unlockable option change:
    • Click for spoiler "Secret Boss" option moved above preset selection, so you can choose whether to enable it always, never or randomly, regardless of the selected preset. If you choose a non-default option, it will show "SB:Y/N/?" in the options string, but it won't affect the completion of achievements requiring a "default" ruleset.

Tower of Trials v1.14 r42

v1.14 release; Reworked Mowz's Smooch, and other small changes:

  • Smooch now restores Mario's stats over time instead of restoring Mario and Mowz's HP:
    • Level 1 - Restores 5 HP for 3 turns, for 4 FP.
    • Level 2 - Restores 5 HP+FP for 3 turns, for 7 FP.
    • Level 3 - Restores 5 HP+FP and 1/3 of max SP for 3 turns, for 10 FP.
  • The sign outside the tower entrance now shows the tower difficulty in addition to seed/options.
  • Other minor text changes.

v1.13 release; minor balance changes + text improvements:

  • All 6-BP badges (Power Plus (P), Lucky Day (P), Return Postage) reduced in cost to 5 BP so they can be immediately used with default settings. Lucky Day (P)'s coin price was raised slightly.
  • HP+FP stat thresholds for determining which Zess specialty recipe to produce were raised slightly, as it was needlessly difficult to cook a Zess Dinner beforehand.
  • Improved a few achievement descriptions and Tattles.

v1.12 release; a few fixes and adjustments:

  • Partners' max HP should now be consistent if continuing from an auto-save, for real this time.
  • Improved the clarity of various bits of text, mostly concerning the hub shop + shop floors.
  • Creating all-new scripts for Mario's moves for ToT inadvertently made Hammer Bro audience members less snobbish about proper use of Hammer action commands; this has been rectified.
