Heathrow’s biodiversity sites
Heathrow currently manages approximately 170 hectares of land across 13 biodiversity sites for nature conservation purposes. These sites make up approximately 10% of the total airport’s land.
Over 3,000 species recorded at the airport including a species of fungus that is completely new to science.
Heathrow has retained The Wildlife Trust’s Biodiversity Benchmark award since 2008, demonstrating a commitment to biodiversity managment. Ten of our sites currently hold a Biodiversity Benchmark award.
Our biodiversity sites open to the public are Oaks Road, Two Bridges Farm, The Causeway and Cains Lane. Plan a visit soon.
