Every couple of months, I reread parts (or usually all) of The Divine Comedy/ONQR, because it's just that good, and I always notice scenes or lines that have been changed, or even brand new scenes that have been added. I love it, it's always exciting to see what's new, and the new stuff is always great, but out of curiosity, what is usually the driving force behind these changes? Do you reread your fic and think of new things? Or do thoughts hit you randomly and you go back to change it?
First off, thank you so much for the ask! I love hearing from people who are still going back and rereading the series. It makes me feel like all the work I put into it didn’t just disappear into the aether after I stopped writing.
But of course you’re right, I didn’t really stop writing. I may be one of the few writers who actually enjoys rereading their own stories because I write what I want to read but no one else has written yet. So I do reread chunks of this series occasionally and notice changes (improvements, I always hope) that I want to make. I am incapable of leaving things alone. (Like I went back and forth on the name of the series several times, but I think I’ve finally settled on ONQR.) Originally, that was all it was, and I was glad it gave something new for rereaders to come back to.
But lately, I’ve been going back and giving the whole series a more thorough edit to create a manuscript for a print book. I wanted to have this thing on my bookshelf. I recently finished that big edit so there probably won’t be any more substantial changes from now on. But once I get the proof copy back from the printers, I plan to post the files here so anyone can print their own copy who wants one :)

Unfortunately it's still not cheap but it's about 1/3 – 1/4 the cost of Multi-Color Polyjet and it still looks & feels nice. Shapeways has added an even cheaper multi-color material called Full-Color Nylon that's about half the price of HD Multi-Color. It is the cheapest multi-color material available (~$16 for small size), but currently it is a Shapeways exclusive (not available through my Etsy shop).

elektricangelgreentrickster asked:Been thinking this for a day or so now, but, the way you've written them, Oz and Roman make me think of a pair of chess kings, the rulers of two respective realms who, no matter how close they get, can never get close enough to strike each other down.And it makes a certain amount of sense just in the basic view, the sides of black and white at war... but the way you write them has me thinking about how, in some chess sets, it's not black versus white, it's white versus red. Which is just... so appropriate for them. Not only because of their colour palettes, but because the way you've written the story, the situation really isn't just black and white, and neither are they. Just a pair of kings with very different kingdoms, eternally circling each other on the board they share. Different colours, same mold, and not as opposite as they'd like to be.I definitely saw them as parallel figures presiding over separate yet closely interdependent domains. Roman rules the criminal underworld while Ozpin guides the spiritual/moral path of humanity. At face value, they're opposing figures, but it turns out they need each other, that they both play an important role in balancing humanity's light and darkness. The show already uses a ton of chess metaphors for Ozpin, mainly setting him in opposition to Salem (the black queen), who is on a whole other level than Roman and not really even on the same side. Roman's on his own side, so I like him playing red instead. Surprisingly enough, I don't think I had thought about him and Ozpin in chess terms before (probably because it's such a thing with Ozpin and Salem in the show), but I think it works well the way you've described it!
