Inspirational little boy with no arms swims length of Olympic swimming pool in amazing video

Anything his friends can do with able bodies little Ismail Zulfic 'can skilfully do with his feet' says his proud mum Elmina

A young boy who was born without arms has shown how he can swim the length of an Olympic sized swimming pool in this inspirational video.

Ismail Zulfic was also born with curved toes on his right foot.


The six-year-old's mum visited several doctors during her pregnancy, but they had all failed to tell Elmina Zulfic of her son's disability .

The mum, from Zenica, Bosnia, says: "The doctors told me that I didn't have enough amniotic fluid but that there was nothing to worry about.

"It was only after I gave birth that I accidentally turned and saw the midwife holding my son by his feet while she bathed him, because he had no hands to hold.

"I was in complete shock, I didn't know what would happen to him or how he would get on in the future.

"As he got older he was refused by several kindergartens before we found one that would take him on, we were so relieved when he started to make friends.

"And everything that his friends can do with their hands, Ismail can skilfully do with his feet."

Despite his disability, Ismail has learnt to use his feet for everyday activities and he can even play video games and has learnt to write.

Earlier this year, Ismail became a member of a swimming club and after months of practice he is now able to jump in and swim the length of an Olympic-sized pool without any help.

Almir Malicbegovic, coach of Ismail's swimming club, said: "It was my girlfriend who first contacted Ismail's parents, she told them that I work with children who have a disability but are eager to swim.

"Before meeting him for the first time I was nervous, I knew that I couldn't use certain tricks and it was hard to know how to approach different techniques.

"At first Ismail didn't want to enter the pool and he cried, which is very normal.

"But after a while we were able to get into the pool and once he was in he didn't want to leave."
