A Chinese delegation — including 11 officials from 🇨🇳 China State Railway Group and 🇨🇳 Ministry of Transport — is visiting Brazil to discuss major infrastructure projects, including a railway project linking Brazil to the Chancay megaport in Peru. The delegation has voiced interest in exploring investment options for the Bioceanic Corridor, a proposed transport route connecting Brazil to the Pacific Ocean. The proposed corridor is crucial for the success of the Chancay megaport, which was financed and developed by China. The Chancay port would help Beijing diversify shipping options and cut its reliance on the Panama Canal. If realized, the corridor would allow Brazil and neighbouring countries to bypass traditional Atlantic shipping routes, significantly reducing transit times and lowering logistics costs for agricultural exports such as soy, beef, and grains. The delegation would also visit Sao Paulo to tour Santos, home to one of Latin America's largest ports, which is being expanded with a US$486 million investment by Chinese agribusiness giant 🇨🇳 COFCO International. Once fully operational in 2026, the expanded terminal is projected to handle up to 14.5 million tonnes of agricultural commodities annually, including soybeans, corn and sugar. In addition, COFCO has acquired 979 railcars and 23 locomotives to transport grains and sugar to the Port of Santos, a move meant to improve logistics efficiency and reduce road congestion. The 98,000 sq m terminal concession was awarded through a bidding process in 2022 and will run for at least 25 years. amp.scmp.com/news/china/art
