Mewat man held for sexually abusing Lithuanian tourist at Agra Fort
AGRA: A 21-year-old man from Haryana's Mewat district has been arrested on charges of sexually harassing a 23-year-old Lithuanian tourist at Agra Fort, police said on Thursday. Investigating officers said the incident took place when the woman and her male friend were waiting in the security queue around 3pm on Wednesday.
SHO Ruby Singh of the tourist police said Mizan allegedly touched the woman inappropriately. When he repeated the act, she caught him and alerted nearby tourist police.
Based on a complaint filed by her companion, a case was registered under BNS Section 75(2) (sexual harassment). Mizan was arrested on the spot, produced in court, and sent to judicial custody.
The woman was taken to Agra district hospital for medical examination, and her statement was recorded. Police said the couple had been in Agra for six days and left for Delhi shortly after the incident to catch a flight on Thursday.
"They are seasoned travellers who have visited over 50 countries, including destinations across Rajasthan and other parts of India," an officer said. Police have withheld their professional details.
This is the second such case in Agra within a fortnight. Earlier this month, a local man was arrested for allegedly sexually harassing and flashing a 30-year-old tourist from the Czech Republic near the Taj Mahal.
Following the back-to-back incidents, Agra Police said enhanced patrolling and stricter surveillance at major tourist spots are being considered to ensure visitor safety.

Dalit baraat attacked in Agra over loud music; groom thrashed, pulled off mare
AGRA: A Dalit wedding procession was allegedly attacked by some members of an upper-caste community for playing loud music and passing in front of their houses at a village in Agra on Wednesday night. The groom, Rohit Kumar, 22, was pulled off the mare, abused, thrashed and his gold chain forcibly taken away.
The accused men came out of their houses with sticks and sharp objects, causing panic among the groom's family and guests, which included many women and children. Some of the guests sustained injuries and were shifted to the nearest hospital. After the attack, the baraatis, who had come from a neighbouring village, quickly switched off the music and lights and rushed to the wedding hall out of fear, locals said. Two persons have been detained so far.
SHO Anand Veer said, "The incident took place at Garhi Rammi village in Khandauli area of Agra district. A case was registered under BNS sections 191-3 (rioting with weapons), 190 (unlawful assembly), 115-1 (causing hurt), 127 (wrongfully confined), 74 (assault or criminal force to a woman), 352 (intentional insult), along with SC/ST Act against nine named -- Ajit Tomar, Ajay Tomar, Saurabh Tomar and Pradeep Tomar and their aides -- and 20 unidentified persons after a complaint by the bride's mother."
ACP Piyushkant Gupta added, "The dispute erupted over loud music. We have started an investigation, and a case was registered. Further probe is on."
In a similar incident at the same village on March 11, another Dalit wedding procession came under attack from some upper-caste men. A case was subsequently registered against three persons for allegedly pulling off the 22-year-old groom from the mare at gunpoint.

AGRA: A case has been lodged by a 28-year-old woman against Divyansh Chaudhary, 29, grandson of an ex-UP minister, for allegedly driving recklessly and colliding with her vehicle.
In her complaint, she stated the incident took place on Monday night on Agra's MG Road while she was returning from Meerut. The vehicle was being operated by her driver. "When my car passed the Hariparwat crossing, a car driven by Divyansh Chaudhary, struck my vehicle at least five times. My vehicle sustained damage," she stated.
Police on Tuesday said that an FIR has been registered at Hariparwat police station under BNS sections 281 (rash driving) and 324 (4) (mischief), and a probe is on. The CCTV footage is being examined, police added.

Should CCTV footage be mandatory in all vehicle accident investigations?

Notably, last April, a case was filed against Divyansh on a complaint by the same woman's father, who alleged that he tried to mow her down with his car. An FIR was registered against Divyansh for "attempt to murder" and "criminal intimidation" at Shahganj police station. Divyansh surrendered in an Agra court in July 2024, and was granted bail by Allahabad HC.
The woman's father said "his daughter and Divyansh were friends, but he pressured her to get married, following which, she distanced herself from him".
