The Gen 1 amphibian wonder joins the roster as Fighter #11!
Although its damage output and movement seems below average at first, like its pollywog cousins, it quickly develops into a fighter of frightening speed and power. Power-Up Punch strengthens all of its uppercuts every time it connects, and setting up a Whirlpool allows Poliwrath to Dive underwater and cross the stage at speeds that would make G. Zapdos dizzy, with an ambiguous cross-up to boot! If you're a more cautious type of player, you can instead choose to blow bubbles and watch your opponent dash themselves against the rocks of your defense, while still keeping the other options in your back pocket for mental stack. Poliwrath can then attack the opponent with its torrential offense, as its Whirlpool hits low several times and opens the opponent up to your lethal throw conversions or cross-up j2A.
While its powerful okizeme and mixup potential is appealing, Poliwrath can have troubles in neutral; its mobility is on the low side, and its anti-airs are rather mediocre. If the opponent has a strong tatsu to clear your bubbles, you'll have quite a hard time getting through.
There's something for everyone here, so go and give Poliwrath a spin!
Playstyle
Poliwrath is a defensive shoto that can cover most options while setting up deadly okizeme.

Bubble Trouble: Poliwrath's 5B/4B are top-notch projectiles, lingering on screen for a long time and enabling approaches/conversions.
Accelerating Power: Once Poliwrath starts to gain meter and Power-Up stacks, its damage and conversion ability become horrifying.
Rough Rapids: Hitting low multiple times and converting into powerful, looping combos, Poliwrath's Whirlpool is a nightmare to deal with as a defender.
Aquatic Ambiguity: That very same whirlpool enables Poliwrath's River Dive, which threatens left/right mix from fullscreen.
Anti-Air Issues: Poliwrath's traditional anti-airs are unrewarding without meter. Poliwrath can alleviate this issue by going for air-to-airs, but that requires it to be preemptive.
Cooking Time: Poliwrath at its strongest has punishing offense, but its meter reliance & level-up mechanic means that it'll start each match at below-average power.
Bogged Down: Poliwrath lacks strong, safe gap-closing options, meaning it'll be playing passively for most of neutral.
