Exploring the Pacific Ocean

So I've been boating around outside of the waypoint map area ( specifically on the east side from top to bottom) and noticed that it is a rather large area and seems to be empty. I know that once you get close to the text when you open The map on the menu screen that your boat will always sink but you can go pretty far out. This leaves quite a large square area of what seems to be empty ocean? Has anyone found anything strange out there? Is it possible to reach the bottom with a sub that far out? Hidden islands? If your in a sub, what happens when you get to the spot where a normal boat would sink? Seems like a lot of area to not hold any secrets...

there's a huge underwater pyramid in that area but it is run by an intergalactic penis so I wouldn't go there if I were u
