I have not lost the desktop backup password, but I want to remove it, meaning I want to revert to the state before I specified a password.
The desktop backup password is not the lockscreen password. It is in the developer tools. See the screenshot at the bottom.
In earlier Android versions, leaving the second and third fields blank and then tapping "set backup password" would remove the backup password. But now, I get a "Failure setting backup password" error.
I haven't tested it with newer Android versions yet because I am guessing if Android 12 won't let me remove the desktop backup password, newer versions probably won't either.
Now I have two questions:
(Not my screenshot, I got it from this link.)

Now I have two questions:
- Is this a deliberate decision by Google (one of many terrible decisions) or just a bug?
- Is there a way to get around this?
