Born in southeast London 60 years ago, Jim Davidson made his name on the London comedy circuit before coming second in the TV talent show New Faces and fronting his own TV comedy show from 1979-82. Davidson became known for using racial stereotypes in his routines, including a recurring black character called Chalky. After appearing in the sitcoms Up the Elephant and Round the Castle and Home James! he presented Big Break and The Generation Game. Last year he was arrested by police working on Operation Yewtree but released without charge. Earlier this year he won Celebrity Big Brother.
Jim Davidson: No Further Action is at the Assembly Hall until Aug 25 (except for Aug 18).
