Why didn't they add empty land
I know a big thing was to make none of the land empty, since most of it was inhabited, but why didn't they add empty land for spots that are legitimately uninhabited? Japan owning Marcus Island in 1836 is cringe, no one should be there lmao.

Since Marcus Island doesnt appear on the map, or if it does its part of Micronesia... No?

You are likely misidentifying the other Nanpo Islands particularly those of the Volcano Group.
