Disney Frankenstein, starring Donald Duck (Graphic Novel) Paperback – August 13, 2019

This electrifying adaptation of the classic novel by Mary Shelly, starring Donald Duck, is a journey of creation that explores themes of nature and fate!

Donald Duck is Doctor Victor von Duckenstein--a doctor with a talent for the art of creation. Sent off to the desolate outskirts of the town of Ingolstadt by Uncle Scrooge von Duck, Victor searches for the secret to creation. In the midst of his experiments, he cannot ignore the longing in his heart for the lady Daisy Beth, who is betrothed to cousin, Gladstone. Drawing inspiration from old books of science and the temptation of challenging nature, Victor finds the means to make his vision into a reality. Spawning from an mix of scrap materials--the unthinkable is conceived--a breathing, living creature horrible to look at and with intentions unknown. Stricken with fear, the creature, Growl, accidentally falls out a window, escaping the grasp of his creator. Victor, fearful of what he has just unleashed into the world, questions what he has created and seeks to find Growl before it's too late. But every story has another perspective to tell--enter the mind of the creature, Growl himself, and follow his path after the crucial fall. What has Victor von Duckenstein created and what is in store for a creature the first of its kind with nowhere to go?

Fabio Celoni (Sesto San Giovanni, 1971) is a comic book artist and scriptwriter, illustrator, painter and writer. He has been collaborating with various Italian and foreign publishing houses since 1989.

He began collaborating with The Walt Disney Company in 1990 for “Topolino”, and subsequently for many other Disney comic book and book titles (“PK New Adventure”, “PK2”, “Paperinik”, “L’Economia di Zio Paperone”, “Paperfantasy”, etc.) as an artist, scriptwriter and cover artist. He was the official cover artist for “Paperinik” for several years.

Since 2000 he has been on the staff of “Dylan Dog” (Sergio Bonelli Editore), as an artist and scriptwriter, and subsequently collaborated with “Dampyr” and “Brad Barron”, for which he graphically created the protagonist and the covers.

He is one of the few Italian illustrators able to juggle humorous, realistic and grotesque drawing styles, using traditional tools (brush, pen), mixed painting styles (tempera, pastels, watercolors etc.) and digital techniques.

For Disney/Panini he has drawn parodies of literary classics, such as "Dracula by Bram Topker", "The Strange Case of Dr. Ratkyll and Mr. Hyde" and "Duckenstein by Mary Shelduck", published all over the world. His first Disney story as a complete author ("The Fate of Scrooge") was a great success.

He wrote and illustrated the gothic novel "Gli abitanti dell’Ombra Effimera" (Ponchiroli Ed.), the historical/esoteric essay "Milano, esoterismo e mistero" (Ed. Olimpia), the essay "I figli di Tolkien" for the catalog of the exhibition "Tolkien. Uomo, professore, autore” edited by the Italian Ministry of Culture (Ed. Skira), the essay “Lucifer, the shadow and the light” for “Suspiria: the heretic” (Annexia), the horror story “Color grigio sangue” (Morellini) and the fantasy/Sci-fi story “Anselmo sotto la pioggia” (Milena ed.)

He created the “SmartComiX” with his publishing house Cerny Klaun, in Prague, with some of the greatest Italian cartoonists.

He co-created the comic series "Nemrod - I cacciatori della Bestia 666", "Nemrod - Armageddon", "Nemrod - La Grande caccia", and "San Michele - i Sigilli della folgore", published with Edizioni Star Comics.

For Panini Comics he created the award-winning comic book adaptation of the “lost” film by Totó, “L’erede di Don Chisciotte”, based on a 1948 story by Cesare Zavattini and other authors, taking care of the screenplay, drawings and colors.

He created the Disney Author Playing Cards (2021) and the Disney Author Medals (2024), both for Panini Comics.

He has published with Walt Disney Company, Panini Comics, Sergio Bonelli Editore, Glénat, Dark Horse, Buena Vista, Mondadori, Piemme, Feltrinelli, Rizzoli, De Agostini, Glènat, 001 Edizioni, Star Comics Edizioni, Heavy Metal, Cerny Klaun, Labirinthum, Eclecta, Acme, Ponchiroli Edizioni, Editoriale Olimpia, Milena Edizioni, Scuola del Fumetto Edizioni, Skira, Morellini Editore, Annexia, ShockDom.

In 2024 he created and registered his independent publishing label Labirinthum, inaugurated with a book of fairy tales written and illustrated by him: “Le favole di Elsa – sette favole per mia madre”, whose entire proceeds are donated exclusively to charity.

He has exhibited his works in over 50 Italian and international exhibitions, both personal and collective. He has held lessons and conferences on comics, art and alchemy, in Italy and abroad. He received the Jacovitti Lifetime Achievement Award "Jac d'Oro", the "Attilio Micheluzzi" Award, the "Coco" Award, the "U Giancu" Award, the "Fumetto nella Gerla" Award, the "Lorenzo Bartoli" Award, two "BergamOscars", eight "Papersera" Awards, the "Ayaaak!" Award, the "Fumo di China" Award and numerous other awards.

Donald Duck and his friends come together to tell Mary Shelley’s classic tale of horror in Disney Frankenstein. While attending university Victor von Duckenstein experiments in creating life, but his success comes at his own peril. Author Bruno Enna does an impressive job at using/casting the Donald Duck characters (Daisy, Uncle Scrooge, Gladstone) in Shelley’s story. And, except for a few minor tweaks and a happy ending, he stays surprisingly close to the original material. Additionally, the artwork by Fabio Celoni is extraordinarily good and really captures the Gothic tone of Shelley’s work. Disney Frankenstein presents a fun and interesting take on one of the most influential tales of the horror genre.

This is a faithful telling of Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley's "Frankenstein " with a Disney twist. With a bit of "The Maltese Falcon" for good measure.

Muy buena historia, con los cambios no podemos decir que es una adaptación, pero vale la pena como la de Mobydick y Hamlet. Espero sigan saliendo clásicos protagonizados por el Pato Donald.
