I used to think the worst that could happen to me was that I could fall down stairs, break my neck and never again be able to walk. It was, for a time. Until the day I found out I had a silent stroke and had permanent brain damage.
I had just turned 21, I had a lot of things in life I looked forward to. I had a great job, lived in a great city and had some of the best friends a girl could ever ask for. A split second would change all of that. A split second would put my life on a whole new flight plan. A flight that would feel like it crashed and burned and no one would ever recover the little black box to see just how devastating the wreckage was.
I had had a pretty rough few months. I had found out some other less exciting news about my health, but I was dealing with it the best that I could. Lily sat patiently waiting to be called into the room. She wasn't sure what was planned for the day but she did know the doctor told her to be prepared for a long visit. It was 10:00 am and Lily had taken the entire day off for this. If this doesn't take more than half an hour, she thought to herself, the whole day would be wasted.
