I found post-U.S. Civil War newspaper articles about lynchings of blacks.
Many of them followed a theme of a homeowner coming home and finding his wife and child(ren) murdered, or a neighbor finding a whole family slaughtered. In this day and age, we would immediately suspect the spouse doing away with the family or a murder suicide. One of the newspapers would post a story a week, that they “received on good authority” of happening in another town or county.

One of the newspapers would post a story a week, that they “received on good authority” of happening in another town or county.
Back then, the news stories went, the outraged neighbors would go to the nearest black man, or find an “uppity” one, or one passing through, and lynch him. The newspaper would put out the gory details, and usually claim that other blacks in the area were so outraged that they participated in the lynching. “Justice” being done, the neighborhood would settle back down. No other investigation, no trials held. At times there was news that the widower married quickly afterwards (as evidenced in later newspaper issues). I wondered how quickly the union was blessed with a new baby—-maybe even sooner than nine months. (I discovered that babies being born rarely made the news back then.)
After discovering and reading such stories, I would have to walk away from the microfilm reader, feeling terribly sick to my stomach.
The Smithsonian has an archive of all Slave ads.
It’s quite unsettling as these ads are a window into a past that really isn’t that far removed from today:

I don’t think any newspaper headline has ever aged as badly as this article from The Independent about Osama bin Laden. The piece raises up the man as a near-mythological warrior for freedom against Soviet oppression in Afghanistan.
“What I lived in two years in Afghanistan, I could not have lived in a hundred years elsewhere”, Bin Laden is quoted as saying, as he poses like some sort of darker shaded Lawrence of Arabia, smiling bravely.

The newspaper goes on to describe how Osama makes good use of his brave ‘mujahedeen’ warriors, having them create building projects in Sudan with the war in Afghanistan nearing an end. It’s 1993 and no one knows the man is about to become a villain of epic proportions in the eyes of the West in just eight short years…
Some newspaper headlines age badly. Some worse than others. But this one, by far, aged worst of all. Osama bin Laden the hero of Afghanistan, fighting the Russians, helping the Americans. Oh how wonderful! Could not possibly backfire, ever, could it?

“Jim Crow kept that wealth in the community. “Not only did black Americans want to contribute to the success of their own shops,” the cultural center explains, “but there were also racial segregation laws that prevented them from shopping anywhere other than Greenwood.”
“The rampage, which lasted 48 hours, left more than 10,000 black residents of Greenwood homeless and as many as 300 black people dead.
Witnesses to the massacre recalled seeing white mobs looting homes of black people, pulling out finely carved furniture, pianos, mink and leopard coats, before setting the houses on fire. There were reports that hundreds of bodies were thrown into the Arkansas River or buried in mass graves.”
The Bombing of Tulsa HistoricWings.com
“Whatever actually happened that day, on May 30, 1921, the news article that followed the next day was as sensational as it was fabricated.”
“Both sides were well-armed. However, the KKK had one thing that the African-Americans did not — air power. The first aerial bombing in American history was in Tulsa, Oklahoma. It pitted Americans against Americans and it was a battle along racial lines.”
“As the first rays of sunlight touched the city, a siren blared three times as the signal to begin the attack.”
“Each pilot took an “observer” on board and, as some reports later claimed, loaded up their planes with balls of fabric soaked in turpentine. Matches were carried to light the incendiary balls on fire before dropping. They took off at 6:00 am, returning and refueling to fly additional missions later in the morning and in the early afternoon.
They employed the turpentine-soaked balls as makeshift “bombs”, or more properly “fire bombs”. With these, they hoped to start fires in the center of the African-American business district.”
In summary 3,200 KKK members, using “fake news” created a situation where Americans conducted aerial firebombing of other Americans.
The Oklahoma National Guard took casualties in quelling the violence.
This is the reason for the Second Amendment, “high capacity magazines”, and AR-15's.
This neighborhood was outnumbered by a factor of 100 to 1.
Should these residents have been left to the mercy of the mob?
I say no. I say the residents of Greenwood had every right to fight back with “every other terrible implement of the soldier”.
The residents of Greenwood were armed, thanks to the NRA fighting Jim Crow gun laws.

The Real Madame Lalaurie & Other Legends From American Horror Story: Coven - Deep South Magazine
The condition of these slaves has been embellished and exaggerated through storytelling over the years, but it’s important to note that newspaper accounts following the incident contain eyewitness accounts of their exact condition. The Courier described it as an “appalling sight … “their bodies covered with scars and loaded with chains.”
The Bee reported that the rescuers found “seven slaves, more or less horribly mutilated … suspended by the neck with their limbs stretched and torn from one extremity to the other.” The editors of both papers had gone to the Cabildo, where the slaves were brought, to see for themselves, and the Courier also described a man with a hole in his head filled with worms.
These horrific accounts, along with the duration of Madame’s alleged abuse, help to explain why neighbors and citizens were upset enough to ransack her house and destroy everything they could.
You are talking violence and depravity, mistreatment and maltreatment of slaves so severe that slave-trading, slave-owning, and slavery-supporting whites went mad with anger and ransacked her house taking everything they could and destroying everything else in sight. Just how bad was it? The judge who was present recommended that the newspaper not publish a complete description of the depravity within as it would be unfit to read. The reporter after looking within agreed and the quotes we see are all that remains of the permanent record because of that decision. Thus the legends and probable exaggerations of far worse.

This is a highly subjective question, with answers that will vary from individual to individual.
To be sure, some news has been labeled “angertainment”.
One question you may want to ask yourself is whether you really need to be up to date on daily news stories, all the way down to the third-lowest tier of importance, that may tend to be negative. Many people may find that they simply don’t.
Reading the financial news is kind of like applying a coarse-grained filter onto the overall news, albeit imperfectly.

5. Removed the phrase "Default" as it does not contribute to the meaning of the text.
Analysis of Changes:
* The original text required a few minor corrections and improvements.
* The capitalization of the first letter in the sentence was corrected to align with standard grammar rules.
* The question mark was replaced with a period since the sentence is not a direct question.
* The phrase "In English" was replaced with "Written in English" to provide clearer information about the language of the article.
* The unnecessary word "Default" was removed as it added no value to the text.
The original text was concise and straightforward, but it lacked depth and engaging factors. The revised version maintains the neutral and informative tone while addressing the minor issues present in the original.

But, confirmation bias has a dark underbelly: over time, the listener/viewer loses any impulse to expose him/herself to conflicting information. Also, we start to have a lessening opinion of people who differ from us in their thinking. It begins with something like, “Well, they’re a bit misguided.”, but, then devolves, over a series of steps, to the point where we can become fully capable of literally hating both people we’ve never even met, or worse yet, feel that same way about people we once cared about — even loved. It’s this dynamic that is most responsible for the aggressiveness of which you question the genesis.
Reading and watching broadcast news does affect your mood, bad news may make you angry or sad, good news might make you optimistic or happy, however it is of no consequence to your mental health.
