It’s often said that protecting basic liberties is most important when it’s hard to do. It’s especially important when it means defending people whose worldview we might find odious or even threatening.
Which is why I’ve been disappointed by the Anti-Defamation League and its leader, Jonathan A. Greenblatt, whom I’ve known for decades. The ADL thinks it’s protecting American Jews by remaining silent during the Trump administration’s thuggish roundup of pro-Palestinian activists. It isn’t, and anyone with a grasp of history should see that.
