London; 1930. Its just gone midnight. We can't see five feet in front of us. Street lamps are placed on almost every corner creating a dim yellow glow all around. Each building has at least one candle burning in the window; nothing else of the buildings can be seen. Every path and road is made from stone which slightly reflects the beige lights. Garson's bar - a wonderful place. In here, it too is lit by candle lights. The ceiling is rather low but it can't be seen due to the lack of lighting. Tables greet us as we walk through the door. To the left and right of the tables are two sets of stairs leading to the bar itself and the perfectly lit stage. On this stage is a beautiful young woman called Isabella Stirling. She is accompanied by two other young women who are dancing as she sings. Each one of them is wearing a short sparkly dress that create tiny stars as they move in front of the lights.
We take our seat at the table directly in front of us as we walk in, centre of the stage. A man sitting at the bar is staring straight at us as though he knows us. He stands slowly and begins walking towards us. I'm ready to leap at his but I am trapped within a cage that is this body. I can see his hand shaking as he gets closer and closer. He hasn't quite reached me but begins talking anyway.
"What's your name?" I give a confused look, "I think I know you." I pause for a moment having never seen this man before.
"I'm Dr Jekyll, Robert Jekyll."
"Ah, I thought I recognised you." I give the same look, "I was friends with your grandfather, Henry Jekyll." Things are starting to make sense, but why did he approach me?
"Why are you here? What do you want?" he takes no moment to think and answers instantly.
"I'm Garson, owner of the bar. I wanted to ask you something about your grandfather."
"I never knew him."
"You do!" Garson says without hesitation as I sit here shocked. He looks around me and comes close to my ear, "do you know anything about Hyde?" he moves away. That's me, I think, wanting to choke him! I am restrained within Jekyll's mind, body... and soul.
"Sorry, no." Yes, it's me! I think to myself. "Why is it so important?" I can feel Jekyll struggling to contain me.
"Come on, you know something, anything." he is starting to get on my nerves.
"I've told you - I know nothing." Jekyll is trying to calm me but I will kill Garson if he doesn't stop.
"You must know something! Please tell me!" I turn away knowing my eyes glow red as I come out of Jekyll. "It's working," I hear Garson whisper. "Just one thing: you remind me a lot of him."
I let out a roar that echoes around the room; now I have full control. I throw the table away from me as I stand in embarrassment. Garson has ran into the darkness but I will get him! Everyone else in the bar has ran out the door screaming - perfect.
"Come out, come out, wherever you are!" I throw even more tables and chairs across the room, "I will find you!" I shout in a very menacing voice. I hear Garson rattling cutlery around in the kitchen; I follow the noises. Slowly, I enter the pitch black room, still hearing sounds of Garson.
"I will get you Garson! We can be here all night if we have to!" He stops, "Garson!"
"Jekyll," he says as he steps in front of me, "or shall I say... Hyde."
"Yes, Garson, it's me! Finally, I'm free!" before I know it, Garson has slipped back into the shadows, "Garson don't play games with me." A sheer shot of pain hits me at the bottom of my back.
"You'll thank me for that later." I fall to the ground with a knife wedged in my back.
"Hey, Jekyll, is that you?" I am confined again. We focus on Garson and sit up, "sorry about that; it's the only way." we aren't fully okay to speak but we do anyway.
"Why did you want Hyde?" Garson takes a deep breath.
"I wanted to see if you had the curse."
"Curse?" we're not awake enough to say much more.
"Your family's curse." he seems to know more about this than we do. "You're just like him, " he rips the knife out of my back, "in every way." Our wound begins to heal immediately.
