The color change is because of the formula! Their gem used to be a normal red before Jekyll first injected himself. They wouldn't know if unless they got poofed, but the green is a permanent part of the heart facet now.
For The Society, it actually started out more as Jekyll's friend group in their station– meaning, he accidentally formed a group of nerds who were ready to follow him once the war started to reach them. The Society being a place for 'rouge scientists' was accidental, but it was a title they all readily embraced! Rachel, Lanyon and Everly felt a little left out at first until they unconsciously start to see it as making sure those scientists didn't blow themselves up.
Ahh, fusion! Fusion is complicated. Neither Jekyll nor Hyde would want to fuse with anyone in fear of an identity reveal, which they're right to fear since the fusion would be able to see their usual apparitions. However, in case of a fusion happening, the formula shouldn't affect the gem they're fusing with... Unless, maybe, if they stayed fused for a really long time. But neither of them would ever fuse for so long like that.
(and, even though he'd never admit it, Jekyll's only experience with fusion being a negative one certainly makes him aversed to the topic)
