quilna Follow It suddenly occurred to me that Lanyon’s spent most of the comic joking and making light of the situation whenever he shows some sort of concern for Jekyll (Apart from when Jekyll was way too out of it to notice. I also don’t consider “For God’s sake, get some rest” and properly showing concern. It’s mostly just being practical. If your co-worker was tired, you would probably tell them to get rest as well.) so this page is actually the first time that Lanyon might be about to genuinely explain to Jekyll’s face about his concerns. No wonder Hyde’s a little surprised. (Although, I could be wrong if Lanyon clams up next page or lies about why he’s really worried.)It makes me wonder if Jekyll will actually remember any of this later considering he’s off studying his own psyche. I’m not quite sure, I only learnt about shadowbanning recently and I know that none of my posts are showing on the tags so something’s up.As a result I’m going to remove all the AO3 links on my blog and I won’t be posting fic updates on Tumblr in the future. I think the Fake!Lanyon and Lanyon differences could also be explained by Henry’s tendencies to idolize people. We see him do this with Frankenstein and boy look how that turned out. Henry has definitely idolize Lanyon since he has him being this “perfect gentleman” image in his mind. So Fake!Lanyon slapping him doesn’t need to be apologized for because Henry fully believes if Lanyon thinks that is appropriate for the situation then he probably deserved that slap. (Regardless of if Lanyon has ever slapped him before. Although Sabrina’s comments seem to imply Henry enjoyed it.) Henry has put Lanyon on a pedastal in his mind which is why Henry’s breakdown about why he can’t talk to Lanyon is so much worse. He says he failed him and that would be bad since he has done a lot for Henry. But in a normal friendship, friends do things each other all the time. Friends would not and should not lord those things over each other. Henry believes that if he told Lanyon about Hyde and probably about his depression too, Lanyon would be like “After everything I’ve done for you????” Which by the way, is a sign that that relationship is not on equal terms. Yet, we readers know that Lanyon would never do this because he genuinely cares for Henry. But Henry believes he owes Lanyon for a lot of his life. And it is reinforced by Lanyon’s inability to express emotions without making a joke or dismissing them. Which we can see in the above panels. But that also shows the biggest problem of why there is this dissonace between real and fake Lanyon. Communication. Henry and Lanyon are sooooo bad at communicating with each other. I think that in the panels where Lanyon is making jokes saying he is only concerned because it would look bad on him or that he only puts up with Henry since they are business partners is a joke to him. He thinks that this was just friendly teasing or inside jokes about how Lanyon is not into feelings. He thinks Henry knows he is joking, that Henry knows he does actually care. I mean Henry responds in a lighthearted manner, so Lanyon believes he is in on the joke. But seeing as Henry feels like he can’t talk to Lanyon and how Fake!Lanyon acts, Henry does not think they were jokes. Or he has doubts in whether or not Lanyon does care.These boys just really need to communicate with each other. quilna I’m about to go to bed so I don’t have time to really say much (Not sure if I could add much to this anyway) but yes. I haven’t posted anything in about a week and nothing I post is consistent but people keep showing up. B leaves, shaken and upset, and while they’re on their own, something bad happens to them. When A finds out, A runs to see B, panicked out of their mind, wracked with guilt, thinking this is my fault since they never would have left if it wasn’t for me and oh my god how could I have been so cruel to them, they were only trying to help etc… Character A accuses character B of being dramatic, and brushes off their attempts at saying how ill they’re feeling, or how much their wound hurts, until they get way worse, maybe collapse. And character A is like fUCK THEY’VE BEEN TRYING TO TELL ME ALL DAY AND I IGNORED THEMCharacter A is always aloof, or maybe even antagonistic towards character B, but not because they don’t care about character B - they just have trouble expressing their emotions, or are afraid of letting people in. When character A has to take care of character B when B is hurt/ill, B is vulnerable and confused, asking “I didn’t know you cared about me?? To be honest I kind of thought you hated me?” And A is just punched in the chest with the horrible realization that B doesn’t think they care and hjhfhhhh.A character sometimes gets ignored or brushed aside in their friend group or family. Even though they’ve been showing obvious signs that something was wrong, no-one noticed, and everyone is shocked and horrified when they finally realize.Similar to that:A character sees them-self as a burden on their friends or family, so don’t tell anyone what’s wrong with them even as it gets much worse. When the others find out and are like??? Why didn’t you say something??? The character accidentally lets slip their insecurities (something like “i don’t matter”) and the others are just so heartbroken that theyve done something to make them feel like that.And there’s so many more that i can’t remember right now! I was speaking to a friend of mine and they said something along the lines of:“Hey, remember that story you wrote years ago? The one with the alien? I didn’t know you back then and that story was my first introduction to you as a person.”And now I have to live with the knowledge that the edgiest thing I ever wrote is still alive and kicking in the memories of other people even after all these years and, moreover, was how a friend of mine was introduced to me. What do I do with that?There were probably people in that class that never met me and that story was their only introduction to me as a person. That was how they knew me.
