The story of life's journey

Where did our "life" come from?
Since the first life appeared on Earth,
Living things have continued their long "journey of life" by repeating evolution and extinction.

Kitakyushu is one of the locations.

You may not believe it when you look at the scenery today, but
There was a time when dinosaurs lived here.

About 4 billion years ago,
In the quiet sea where no living creatures exist,
The first life was born.

A life that was so small it could not be seen with the naked eye
It has evolved over a long period of time,
After about 540 million years ago, trilobites,
Sea lilies, ammonites, fish and other creatures began to appear, and the sea began to become home to many creatures.

Furthermore, by about 300 million years ago, amphibians, which had evolved from plants, insects, and fish, had begun to live on land.

Life is not only in the sea,
It spread across land and sky.

About 230 million years ago, dinosaurs appeared on land, and in a warm climate,
Their species and ecology have diversified and their numbers have increased rapidly.

Dinosaurs walked the earth, flew in the sky,
The Earth was transformed into a world of dinosaurs.

In the eastern part of the Eurasian continent, which is now Kitakyushu,
Titanosaurus and Wakino Satoryu, etc.
Many different dinosaurs lived here.

However, the long-lasting "Age of Dinosaurs" is coming to an end.
About 66 million years ago, many living creatures became extinct.

But still, there are lives that survived,
It continued to evolve.
Eventually, mammals that had previously been unnoticeable will begin to increase in number and thrive.

Our human ancestors appeared about 7 million years ago.
They began to use tools,
They lived by moving around in search of food.
Later on, people began to settle there.

In Japan, people began cultivating crops towards the end of the Jomon period.
There were also major wars during the Yayoi period.

Kitakyushu has long been a place where many people and goods have passed by land and sea.
It is a place that has nurtured a variety of industries and cultures.

Kokura Castle was built about 400 years ago during the Edo period.
Castle towns and roads were developed.

During the Meiji period, railways and ports for transporting coal were developed,
With the opening of the government-run Yawata Steel Works,
Kitakyushu developed as an industrial city that supports Japan.

The strata and fossils of the land we live on,
And by studying flora and fauna, ruins, and cultural assets,
You can see the path that life has walked.

And where we come from,
You will be able to see where you are heading.
In Kitakyushu, you can see sea lilies from about 350 million years ago,
Dinosaurs from 100 million years ago
Fossils of giant trees and whales dating back about 30 million years have been found here.

The museum houses materials from various eras,
We can trace the history of life and humanity.

Approximately 4.6 billion years have passed since the birth of the Earth.

Animals and plants have overcome many threats of extinction.
It has evolved like a miracle.

And at the forefront of this endless journey,
We are walking.

While enjoying the "travel records" collected by the museum,
Experience the "journey of life" that continues from the past to the present and into the future.
