TVTropes finally has an official mobile app. I know we are late to the game but we finally made it. You can download it here:
IOS:
https://apps.apple.com/app/6738365737
Android:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.tvtropes.app
What's new?
- Home Screen showing most popular indexes/pages
- AI story generator using tropes database. Choose your Hero, Setting, Narrative Device, etc and watch your story come together with AI
- Push notifications for replies to your followed threads, new PM's, queries, reviews, TLP drafts, etc.
- Badge Shop added to the app and all badges besides awards and pro-user badges are free to add
- Video tab with full screen browsing (open in full screen then scroll between videos)
- New Video options for closed-captions and zoom (helpful for old 4x3 aspect videos)
- PM messages are grouped by title/troper (looks similar to texting but grouped by conversations like email)
- Better wiki walk experience (swipe left/right on your phone to traverse an index, swipe up from the button to switch index)
- Queries, Reviews and Trope Launch Pad have Image upload, preview and markup help
- Main Review section has images and a search bar along with "mine" and "replies" filters
If you find a bug please report it in our separate bug thread which we started last month for beta testing
In this thread please give us feedback on the app. What do you like it about it? What do you hate about it? How can we improve to make it the best app ever?

Well, there's nothing I can really say about the technological elephant in the room that no-one else has, so I'll just give this feedback - a search on page feature wouldn't go amiss.
Maybe I'm just spoiled by pressing "search on page" to look for something without having to scrub through the whole page, but I feel like that kind of convenience would be a big help.
We can choose to be better.I remember there being some discussion about it, which I believe went something like;
"We don't like the AI"
"Then don't use it"
Now, I'm pretty sure that was smaller scale, I'm pretty sure I only know about it because I happened to hang out in the thread it was mentioned in. This was advertised to everyone with what spent some time being an unremovable banner on the top of the screen, which is bound to attract more eyes.
Yeah, the comparison doesn't feel fair to me as well, since they have totally different use-cases. Who knows, maybe the bigwigs have a use case in mind, I don't own a website.

X4 I didn’t know that this app was even being made, it’s just now being pushed in my face. How would I have known to push back against it? Also AI sucks.
Maybe they’re adding it because AI is sort of a big thing nowadays, and they want to capitalize on that.
One question that may be of use to many, if the Claude Sonnet is a locally downloaded model or uses Anthropic's online cloud/API services.
TroperWall / WikiMagic Cleanupi found this when it comes to the AI's carbon footprint that we are using:

thats a good idea. ill add it to the list of potential future features.

Now Monitoring Query Bugs and Query WishlistLike I said, it's a technology that has attracted significant controversy over generating content without human involvement. It was bound to attract this sort of stir the moment it went online. Just because there is an option not to use such a feature, it doesn't hide the fact that such a feature is there in the first place. It is a Tu Quoqe argumentative fallacy that does not address the issue at hand.
Hademaniacs, The TV Tropes Character Crossover War is your place for all things Hades! Go give 'em the love, comin' soon to a new home!I'm still less than trusting of their official statement without it being verified by a third party source. I still don't see the purpose of it on a T Vtropes app.
at least youre not dismissing everyone's feedback on account of being 'anti-ai rhetoric' anymore. That's a change, I guess.

^Especially since they don't name the 'external experts', admit they produce heavy emissions, and are vague on what they do to make up for it.
Baby steps
Ey, migi vuru?Outside of the obvious controversy that usage of AI innately attracts, looking at the feature itself it really doesn't feel like it has anything that any other text generator doesn't? On a fundamental level it feels like a gimmick that someone curious would maybe use once and never again, which is only lending credence to the argument that it feels unnecessary and shoehorned in.
For something positive, I really like the Badge shop. It's cool that badges show up even when using the site outside the app and I think it has a lot of potential to be a fun way to customize your profile going forward.

Den ich beende jetzt deine bärmliches Leben! Some other non AI Feedback:
This could really use a random trope / random work button
The layout kind of sucks? In particular the giant TVTROPES banner at the top that occupies like, 1/10 of my phone's very limited screen real estate and does nothing. Sure there's the important link button in the corner, but that doesn't require an entire banner (and clicking the tvtropes logo doesn't even return you to the main page). Said blue banner turns into a page title when you're on a work/tropes page but again, the title is at the top, it's just eating screen real estate. It's not like the app supports tabbed browsing (see below) so it's not like I need a reminder of the page im reading when its the only page I can see.
The app is very slow. Some pages take upwards of 5 to 6 seconds to load, versus < 1 on the same phone in browser.
The lack of tabbed browsing is almost criminal on a wiki, for a decent Wiki Walk experience. Like, I want to click all those blue links but I can't because it'll take me off the page I'm in.
Feature request: a page preview when you press on a link before you open it. The Other Wiki's app does this.
I can't seem to add badges, when I tap on a category, the app crashes, can this be fixed? I'm on iPhone Xs, IOS 17.

If you all hate AI-generated content so much, you should have complained when the app was in the planning stages. It's not like it was a secret that the app would use AI.
