Do You Like a Good Chin-Wag?

This saying is very familiar ‘down under.’ I associate it more with a long verbal catch-up with someone you haven’t seen in a while, whether on the phone, over the fence or in passing.

I believe talking with my Aunt in New Zealand holds the record for the longest chinwag. When we get going, we can yack for three-plus hours! However, it is only because we seldom talk, that we always have a year or two of news to catch up on.

To be perfectly honest, I’m not the greatest at picking up the phone — or being on it at length — anymore. It’s not that I don’t care about my kids, parents or siblings. I work on the philosophy no news is good news.

When we do have something to say, we’ll have a brief chinwag!

Did “chinwag” originate in Britain? A friend who used to live there used it the other day. She had to explain what it meant. Such a descriptive word. 😄

Thanks for the chinwag, Barb!
