Online visa application for visiting Japan
Attention!
From June 1, 2024, the payment method for an eVISA is limited to online payment. We only accept the payment by your credit card.
If your application is incomplete or doesn't meet the requirements, it will be cancelled or returned without being processed. Please submit your application well in advance of your travel.
What’s the JAPAN eVISA system?
JAPAN eVISA system provides a way to apply for a visa online and issues an electronic visa.
Currently, applicants who apply for a single-entry short-term stay visa for the purpose of tourism may use the JAPAN eVISA system.
(* You cannot apply through the system if your purpose of visit is visiting relatives/friends, attending a conference or business, etc.)
If you don't meet the requirements mentioned below, you should apply for a visa at the Japanese overseas establishment with jurisdiction over your place of residence.
Applicants eligible to apply online
You are an eligible applicant if you fulfill the followings;
✓ You are not a national/citizen of visa exemption countries/region.
✓ You reside legally in the following countries or region:
Australia, Brazil, Cambodia, Canada, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Africa,
Taiwan, United Kingdom and United States of America
✓ You are an ordinary passport holder.
✓ You are traveling to Japan via international flights or international scheduled passenger ferries.
✓ You are planning to stay in Japan for less than 90 days (short-term) for the purpose of tourism.
✓ You are applying for a single-entry visa.
In the following cases, you can not apply online. Please contact the Japanese overseas establishment with jurisdiction over your place of residence for details.
- You have been convicted of a crime or offence, deported, etc. in any country.
- You are a dual national of Japan and another country.
- You are applying for a multiple-entry visa.
- The purpose of your visit is not tourism but other purposes such as visit to relatives/friends, business, study, work and transit, etc.

*Nationals/citizens of Australia, Brazil, Canada, Singapore, Taiwan, United Kingdom and United States of America are exempt from short-term stay visa.

▶ Nationals of Indonesia who do not possess a "Visa Waiver Registration" (seal or in electronic form) may apply for a visa online. Those holding the "Visa Waiver Registration" may also apply for a visa online if they are visiting Japan for more than 16 days and up to 90 days for the purpose of tourism.
▶ During the application process, you may be requested to appear in person for an interview at the Japanese overseas establishment with jurisdiction over your place of residence.
▶ Only online payment is available for an eVISA. You cannot pay a visa fee in cash at the Japanese overseas establishment.
▶ When the eVISA is issued through JAPAN eVISA, you will not have a visa sticker in your passport. You will be requested to display "visa issuance notice" on your device (e.g. smartphone, tablet) when checking in at the airport. Other forms (e.g. PDF, screenshots) will not be accepted.

Required Documents for Visa application
Required documents vary depending on your country/region of residence and nationality/citizenship. Please check carefully what documents are required for your visa application.
Notices on Visa application
[Application by Proxy]
If a proxy applies on your behalf, a letter of authorization is required. Once your visa has been issued, the proxy must give you a PDF or printed copy of the "Visa Issuance Notice" with QR code.
[Applications by Minors]
If a minor child is applying for an eVISA and travelling alone, a parental consent form must be submitted.
[Facial photo]
Photo should be taken within the last six months, against a plain, untextured background, with the entire face clearly centered horizontally. If it doesn't meet the requirements, the Japanese overseas establishment may request you to apply again, which might delay your whole visa application process.
Don't use photo retaken from passport, driver license, group photograph etc.

Some of the Japanese overseas establishments are experiencing delays in processing applications due to a large number of applications, many of which are incomplete and cannot be examined immediately. Please submit your application well in advance of your travel.
