As much as the clickbait fear-mongering of RNZ's 'nefarious activity' article made me cringe today, I'd certainly be vetting the potential interference of right-wing tech bros. After all, citizens have been raising the issue of their many nefarious-yet-uncontrolled online activities, and the Government's reluctance to consider them an issue, for months. 1,000 Hobson's Pledge members using 20 of their fake email accounts? I can see it as a possibility.

We talk about the experience of early voting and the difficulties involved. We suggest that voting should be made more accessible, like using face recognition technology to vote online, so that people don't have to wait in lines or go through other burdensome processes to exercise their right to vote. #EarlyVoting #VotingAccessibility #FaceRecognition #VotingRevolution

Those directing policy at some of the social media companies believe that Section 230 provides those companies, and themselves, with a license to kill, steal, lie and cheat. That perception must be changed, now! It is well known that some social media companies design their algorithms to cause the greatest harm possible to their users. The management of those companies must be held responsible. It is my impression that the ACLU has been a significant force in protecting social media companies through its interpretation of Section 230, sometimes in front of The US Congress. To the extent that is correct, then the ACLU bears responsibility as well for those harms. It is far past time that the ACLU get its priorities in order. Hate speech, political disinformation, and psychological manipulation are not free speech. We should have zero tolerance for harmful social media posts by bots. I would think that Erwin Chemerinsky, Dean of Law School, Berkeley Law would be a good resource for these issues.
Let's talk about the challenges of reining in "Big Tech." The Supreme Court has had a number of important rulings regarding social media recently. I'll be joining the #Netchoice President & CEO Steve DelBianco, the ACLU's Vera Eidelman, and Fordham Law Professor Olivier Sylvain on Capitol Hill next week to discuss and debate several #SCOTUS cases and their impacts on #freespeech, #platform #regulation, and where to go from here. It's sure to be an important, and likely contentious, conversation. There are a few tickets left, come join us if you're in DC! Register here: https://lnkd.in/eVEgHABU
