RoboCop: Rogue City – Upholding the Law, One Bullet at a Time

RATING: 8.5 out of 10

I didn’t think we’d ever get a RoboCop game that actually feels like RoboCop, but here we are. Rogue City isn’t just a cash grab on nostalgia—it’s a love letter to Paul Verhoeven’s vision, packed with ultra-violence, corporate corruption, and those beautifully awkward robotic movements we all know and love. Set between RoboCop 2 and that other sequel we don’t talk about, this first-person shooter puts you back in the metal-plated boots of Alex Murphy, delivering justice the only way he knows how: slowly, methodically, and with extreme prejudice. The game blends heavy gunplay, light RPG elements, and some light detective work, all while keeping the grimy, crime-infested streets of Detroit alive. If you ever wanted to be a tank with a badge, this is your moment.

"Your Move, Creep" – The Pros
+ RoboCop Feels Like RoboCop: The movement, the crosshairs, the Auto-9 pistol—it’s all here. RoboCop moves like a cybernetic force of nature, slow but unstoppable, and even Peter Weller is back to lend his iconic voice. The subplots that explore Murphy’s fragmented memories add a surprising layer of depth. The customizations feel good, creating your own variation of RoboCop that feels right and fits your own style.
+ The Story Fits Right In: It’s not groundbreaking, but it feels like a true continuation of RoboCop’s saga—corporate greed, crime syndicates, and the moral dilemmas of a man trapped in a machine. Just ignore RoboCop 3, as the devs clearly did. The story starts a bit slow as it re-introduces you to the world but it picks up and pulls you right in. Good pacing throughout after the sluggish beginnings
+ Dirty, Gritty, and Authentically '80s: Detroit is a glorious mess—filthy streets, graffiti-covered alleys, and scumbags on every corner. It nails the dystopian vibe of the movies, making you feel like the city needs RoboCop to clean house. The police precinct is a near-perfect recreation, adding to the immersion. Fans of the films will feel right at home.
+ Balanced Open-World Structure: The mix of open exploration and linear missions works surprisingly well, keeping the pacing tight while letting you roam just enough to feel like a cop patrolling his beat. It keeps the story and pacing tight but moving along at a decent speed.
+ Bloody, Brutal, and Unapologetically RoboCop: The violence is not watered down, and thank god for that. Limbs fly, bad guys explode, and the game earns its M-rating with pride. It feels like a natural extension of the original films.
+ RoboCop’s One-Liners: Never gets old. Keep 'em coming.
+ Emotional Gut Punch (Spoilers!): Anne Lewis getting shot up? Not cool. But if the goal was to make me feel something, mission accomplished.

"Dead or Alive, You're Coming With Me" – The Cons
- Some Side Missions Feel Like Busywork: While some add depth to Murphy’s character, others feel like filler. Not every errand should feel like an epic undertaking for a cybernetic enforcer.
- Dated Transition Scenes: Moving between open-world Detroit and building interiors feels clunky, like a game that almost has seamless transitions but doesn’t. It’s likely a budget constraint, but it does break immersion.
- Not Saved by the System: They need to rework the save system as it autosaves whenever you transition into a new section or mission layer but some of the missions and open area parts can take a a bit longer to finish and I found myself without a save.

"I'd Buy That for a Dollar... But" – The Mixed Bag
+/- Character Models Are a Bit Dated: Some NPCs look like they were pulled from an early PS4 game. RoboCop himself looks great, but the side characters? Not so much.
+/- Hit-or-Miss Voice Acting: Peter Weller kills it, but some side characters sound... questionable. Side quest dialogue, in particular, feels phoned in.
+/- Investigations Are a Nice Break… But Basic: Playing detective adds variety, but don’t expect L.A. Noire-level depth. It’s mostly just scanning objects and connecting obvious dots.
+/- Side Quests Are a Double-Edged Sword: Encouraging exploration is great, but some side quests lean towards tedious. Completionists might find them a bit of a slog.
+/- Slow-Mo Works… Sometimes: When it clicks, it’s awesome. When it overstays its welcome, it can drag the action down.

Verdict: A Surprisingly Great AA Game
RoboCop: Rogue City is the game I didn’t think would ever happen, and yet here it is, proving that not everything needs to be a bloated, 100-hour AAA open-world RPG. It’s a AA shooter that knows exactly what it is: a love letter to RoboCop fans that delivers nostalgic action, solid storytelling, and the ability to lay down the law with extreme prejudice. The methodical gameplay takes a bit to click, but once it does, it works and pulls your right in. The story unravels in a way that makes you feel like you're back in the late ‘80s watching the original film, and for that, I have to applaud the devs. If this is the level of care they can bring to RoboCop, I really hope they tackle more classic ‘80s and ‘90s action movies.

Even with its budget limitations keeping it grounded, this is a clever, rich, and soulful addition to the RoboCop mythos that every fan of the iconic action hero should play.
Shooting punks is weighty and satisfying, the retro-futuristic cyberpunk atmosphere is spot-on, plus there are a bunch of cool side missions to investigate.
Don't sleep on this one. It may not have the glamour of most AAA productions but it more than makes up for it with the soul, grit, and respect for the player that they so often lack these days.

The game nails the RoboCop experience, heavy steps, explosive gunfights, and criminals learning (the hard way) that crime doesn't pay!!

RoboCop: Rogue City feels like a spiritual successor to Urban Chaos: Riot Response, delivering intense first-person crime-fighting action. Both games put you in the boots of a heavily armored law enforcer facing off against ruthless criminals in a chaotic city. While RoboCop trades riot shields for a slow, methodical approach with heavy firepower, it retains the same satisfying mix of gunplay, justice, and urban warfare.
If you enjoyed Urban Chaos, this is the closest modern experience you’ll get.

bought this for full price when it came out for xbox. on sale right now for 9.99 EUR here on steam - that is criminally low for this game.

pros: nails the feel of the first two movies, fun shooting, good story and nice side missions. environments look great. good difficulty balance overall, with a good difficulty curve building up.

cons: a bit jank, character models arent great and a lot of the voice acting isn't great (besides Robocop). some technical issues (DLSS causes crashes, you need to use TSR) and performance is a bit all over the place. gameplay loop may be overly simple for some.

for a sale price it is absolutely worthwhile, especially if you also liked or remember anything about the first 2 movies.

Very good game that respect the movie and original story. The shooting and weapons are great. i watched the original Robocop on 2017. And I like Peter Weller a lot. He is a legend like Arnold Schwarzenegger. If you were born in 80s or 90s, you will love this game!

The little kid in me is very happy with this game.

It looks, and feels like a total 80's action movie. You can walk around and it's as if you're really robocop. This game is incredibly cinematic, it's also not too hard on the graphics card. A bit of slowdown in certain area's, but otherwise a smooth experience.

There's so much detail put into this game you can tell it was a passion project. Absolutely loved it the moment I loaded it. up.

It's a bit rough in some area's, but it offers a great story and some serious robocop roleplaying, running around finding evidence, solving crimes, and then the action is peak. The explosions and environment destruction adds to the atmosphere immensely. Huge blood splotches. It is so thematic and stylized.

I hope this gets a sequel. With a bit more budget to polish it.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! ROBOCOP IS THE BEST!!

Good effort but really not interesting enough to keep playing.
1st section is all gunfight, which is nice. I mean, it feels like Robocop, the bullets pack a punch and the killing is satisfying, but that's where it ends for me. You do get the feeling of being a robot tank able to take bullets and not care while headshoting everything that moves, but the enemy AI is piss poor, just running at you without care of being blasted into pieces, the stages are corridors with open doors to fake rooms that lead nowhere. Then you finish the intro, and you get into 'investigations' and that for me is where it takes a nose dive. walking at 1mph trying to find clues highlighted by icons to 'scan' them (which takes 4 seconds each time) and MAYBE its a clue but most of the time its 'irrelevant to the case'... ans the maps are horrible. not only graphically, but the arrangements make no sense. street that end in a dead end everywhere, building entrances that have no logic (like a car repair shop with huge bay door, that lead to huge wall just 8 feet later... impossible to even think you can turn a car into the garage...).

after 2hrs I had enough boredom and uninstalled.

When I bought Robocop at a very good discount and started playing on Steam Deck, I thought that it would not handle the game and it would not be interesting, but it turned out that the game is running normally, I would not say that it is ideal, but for 30 FPS in the lock you can play it. The plot in the game is not bad and not good, it is average normal, you can really feel the nostalgia from the film, even some scenes were taken from the film, I definitely recommend the game to fans of films or to play in the evening

Very surprised how fun this game is. Combat is enjoyable especially with the iconic handgun. While the story really gives you the Robocop campy feel. Worth checking out.

Searching stolen items or drugs around the city was only thing that held back since those aren't really collectibles like the notes but aside that really immersive and writing was just like in the movies, thanks to voice actors too all was believable.

Would have I added anything? No. Would have I deleted something? Maybe whole skill tree thing could have been just deleted and leave the motherboard upgrading to improve weaponry. And things that were on skill tree would have been unlocked by story or side quest BECAUSE we end up visiting doctor anyways after all missions.

Tips for beginners? Upgrade Engineer to 6 and then go as you please. New game plus is after completing game. I honestly don't know if public trust matter in skill tree but it's there and I don't want to test out it.

My Pc is 13th Gen I7 13-700k 64Gb 3070 ti gpu, and the gigabyte Mb is set to default setting

However the game crashes consistently on startup, I've been playing KCD2 no problems, I also have a load of other games i play. most are recent titles. so something is wrong with this game.

so Based on my experience with trying to make it run ""No I would not recommend."""

Note: I have spent several hours trying various things like compatibility/admin modes, making alterations to the registry and so on none of the things suggested on the net worked for me. sure cost was low, (Steam sale) but be wary.

The only thing slower than Robocop's walk in this game is the pacing. OMG, what a bore. Using the Auto-9 handgun is very satisfying. As is head shotting enemies and hearing their skulls burst. That is where the fun ends. The voice acting is terrible. Dialog is profoundly unimaginative and stupid. Download at your own risk. Damn, it's boring.

Great game. I feel like Robocop. There's good action and in the times your doing detective work and talking to people his deadpan responses are hilarious and badass and the same time.
