Hayward police ID man whose body was found in parking lot above supermarket

HAYWARD — A 41-year-old man found dead in a downtown parking lot located above a supermarket over the weekend has been identified Daniel West, police said.

Officers were dispatched at 9:56 a.m. Sunday to the parking lot above the Lucky’s supermarket at 22555 Mission Blvd. for a report of man on the ground, said Sgt. Ken Forkus.

Several Lucky employees told officers that they found the man lying on his back behind an electrical box, Forkus said. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

An autopsy performed by the Alameda County coroner’s office on Monday revealed West died of natural causes, Forkus said.

Police said West was a transient who last known addresses were in Tracy and Fremont.
