Isn’t it funny that you can look at relatively neutral historical art and immediately know the political beliefs of the artist

I’m sorry, I cannot get over this. It’s like a villain monologue from a kids’ movie.

The reason top tech companies often hire foreign-born & first-generation engineers over “native” Americans isn’t because of an innate American IQ deficit (a lazy & wrong explanation). A key part of it comes down to the c-word: culture. Tough questions demand tough answers & if
This is the closest thing we’ll ever get to footage of early explorers encountering tribal peoples in Asia and the New World

The Left will go on a 50-year campaign of renaming anything named after a white man but the moment one thing is changed back it’s “uhh why do you care dude? kinda weird”

Can someone far smarter than me explain to me why the name of a mountain in Alaska is even remotely on the top 10,000 issues facing this country? Who is this for?
If you can’t handle some fat old lady getting fired from her crappy job, how can you expect to handle deporting 10-20 million people? Harden your heart. This is a war, and wars aren’t won with temperance.
It’s difficult to understate how aristocratic medieval warfare was. Single combats, small skirmishes. A knight could often count the men across from him. Thus each man was worth much more — trained from childhood, wildly expensive armor, riding a well-bred horse… 1/

“THE SPANISH HAD GUNS!” “Bad ones. Most of the battles were hand-to-hand.” “BUT DISEASE!” “Wasn’t really till after the conquest.” “BUT CORTÉS HAD NATIVE ALLIES!” “It was pretty impressive that he rallied and commanded so many people, right?”

One time I went to a new barber and he started talking about how he “knew mass shootings were fake because they didn’t target IRS buildings.” It was the best-looking haircut I’ve ever gotten.

Note that the audience being “male dominated” is presented as a bad thing. “Dominated” rather than “majority male.” Kennedy “struggles” with it. The Culture sees men enjoying something, anything, as gross and unacceptable.

The real history here is fascinating. Napoleon brought a committee of scholars, historians, anthropologists, etc. with him to Egypt to study the ruins. He would take meals with them and engage in lively scholarly debates. This is why & how the Rosetta Stone was discovered.

Sometimes I think I have a good grasp on some period of history and then I run into a ridiculous piece of information that destroys my entire framing. For example, Aztecs, samurai, Ottomans, and Spaniards shared the same battlefield… in the Philippines.

Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The Cagayan Battles of 1582 did not involve Samurai, Ronin or anything that could be considered a professional army. The Wokou were pirates and in this case not majority Japanese. They carried spears and arquebuses. gunbai-militaryhistory.blogspot.com/2018/11/cagaya… The Tlaxcalan natives allied to the Spanish are not Aztecs. latinobookreview.com/when-tlaxcalan…
Context is written by people who use X, and appears when rated helpful by others. Find out more.
To be clear, this is how they’re defining a Marine who came from poverty into extreme success and responsibility vs. a commie social studies teacher who ran his school’s GSA club

All of these little symbolic digs that have amassed since 2008 — foreign languages in government media, renamed monuments, “equity” language in public spaces — are being undone. Soon they’ll be the artifacts of a fallen regime, a bizarre government that hated its own people.

The 100-man kumite is probably the hardest single feat in combat sports. A hundred rounds, bare-knuckle, full contact. Only 32 people have ever done it. More people climb Everest every month!
