MediaMate is a tool designed for MacOS users that brings new visuals to the volume, display, and keyboard brightness HUD, as well as introduces a new play-on HUD. This play-in HUD displays the currently playing media and provides quick controls such as play/pause and drag. It can be displayed "inside" the bangs, or in a separate bubble. The tool also provides HUDs for audio, brightness, and keyboard brightness, replacing the native HUDs. MediaMate offers iOS-style themes, round themes, notch themes, and classic themes, as well as audio output icons to quickly see the output device in the audio HUD. It also has some other features like a shortcut to control the brightness of the keyboard, a focus filter (which hides the HUD when focus mode is enabled), and a number of settings that can be customized according to the user's needs. MediaMate supports both Touch Bar and Non-Touch Bar Macs, and can be extended with Lunar or BetterDisplay to extend display brightness and volume. The feature that is playing is compatible with most apps, including Apple Music, Spotify, Chrome, and more. The default, legacy macOS HUDs have been replaced by new, compact HUDs.
