WCSD school rankings: See if your school is among best or worst in Reno, Sparks, Incline

Each fall, the Nevada Department of Education ranks every public school in the Silver State using data from the prior school year.

Schools are rated from one to five stars, reflecting academic achievement, college readiness and graduation rates. Here is how Washoe County public schools, including charter schools, ranked in 2023-24.

 5 highlights from the ranking of every WCSD school

• In Washoe County, Diedrichsen Elementary was the only school to improve by two stars, from one star in 2022-23 to three stars in 2023-24. Statewide, 20 schools saw jumps of more than two stars from the previous year.
• Fifteen WCSD schools received five stars, an improvement over last year when two elementary, one middle and five high schools got the top ranking
• Mount Rose K-8 was the only middle school to receive a five-star ranking, with a score of 98.8 out of 100. No district middle schools received four stars. Nine middle schools got three-stars, and 14 got one or two stars.
• Hug High School was the district’s only traditional high school to get one star, with a score of 26.5 out of 100. That's a drop for Hug, which received 35.5 out of 100 for 2022-23. In 2022, the district opened the new Hug High on Sullivan Lane, replacing the aging building on Sutro Street. The school received 47 out of 100 during the 2018-19 school year. The state paused its rankings during the pandemic.
• Five elementary schools got five stars and 24 received a one-star ranking.
