I am still in deep denial that How to be a Proper Gentleman ended :( This is my coping mechanism now. This is also your reminder to read @quilna's fics and that you will not regret it. (Though I do recommend having some tissues, a mop and a bucket at standby. There is sure to be an ocean of tears.)

anyways are you on team Hyde's shitty drawing or team Lanyon's shitty drawing let me know in the notes lmao I wanna see

I know Fake!Lanyon is already based on how Jekyll sees Lanyon but does anyone else wonder if Jekyll will get the pair muddled?

Like, Lanyon tries to ask Jekyll if he’s ok and Jekyll remembers “Lanyon” calling his feelings “Theatrics” in the past so he clams up instead of even considering that Lanyon might actually take it seriously.

...Other possibility - Lanyon has shrugged off Jekyll’s emotional problems before so, now that they’re more serious, he feels like he can’t talk to Lanyon.

Anyway, this doesn’t make much sense, I just have a lot of emotions about the relationship between Fake!Lanyon and Real!Lanyon and now I’m about to dump an entire essay on the topic instead of working on the kind of writing I’m actually supposed to be doing.

This gets a little long and badly written (and, most likely, a lot of it is already kind of obvious while the rest of it is me making stupid leaps of logic while everyone in the fandom stares at me with the eternal embarrassment reserved for the family disappointment. So, you know, nothing new for me.) so I’m putting it all in a read more.

As the reader, the one who gets to see the story from the omnipresent third person, we’ve obviously all seen how worried Lanyon is for Jekyll (Which also hurts me in so many ways)

Well I was expecting Lanyon to dump a few emotional things on Hyde but I didn’t exPECT HIM TO GO ALL OUT LIKE THAT?! MAN, ROBERT, HOW DESPERATE WERE YOU TO GUSH ABOUT HENRY TO SOMEONE THAT IT TOOK SO LITTLE PROMPTING?!

Hyde: “Worried that Jekyll isn’t as proper as you thought?”

Lanyon, pulling out a big af list: “Speaking of Henry, let me tell you how in love I am with him and the top fifty things I like about him. We have at least a few hours.”

Hyde:

...Huh...

I wonder if Hyde’s going to be too caught up memories and affection to properly respond to Lanyon’s accusations. It would certainly look suspicious if Lanyon accuses him of forcing Henry to write that will only for Hyde to get caught up in a flashback and not deny it right away.

Although, granted, it’s Hyde. If he wasn’t distracted, he would probably claim he forced Jekyll to write that will anyway.

But - Bigger things to consider - is Lanyon going to notice that the man he’s threatening is blushing a lot??? Like, imagine you go to threaten the stranger who is blackmailing your friend and, instead of getting scared or acting cocky or anything you would expect from a blackmailer, they clearly have the hots for you?! What do you even do in that situation?!

Hyde has confessed to having a history with Lanyon but Lanyon already knows from Lucy that Hyde supposedly didn’t even seem to exist in London until two years ago. At the very least, they can come to the conclusion that he didn’t live in London until two years ago.

That’s got to be a confusing timeline of events to unpack for him. To him, within two years, he got intimate with a guy, had a falling out, and then somehow forgot him. If he doesn’t have affairs that often, that’s bewildering. (and if Henry was the only person he’s ever had an affair with, wow would that be confusing as all heck.)

It suddenly occurred to me that Lanyon’s spent most of the comic joking and making light of the situation whenever he shows some sort of concern for Jekyll (Apart from when Jekyll was way too out of it to notice. I also don’t consider “For God’s sake, get some rest” and properly showing concern. It’s mostly just being practical. If your co-worker was tired, you would probably tell them to get rest as well.) so this page is actually the first time that Lanyon might be about to genuinely explain to Jekyll’s face about his concerns. No wonder Hyde’s a little surprised. (Although, I could be wrong if Lanyon clams up next page or lies about why he’s really worried.)

It makes me wonder if Jekyll will actually remember any of this later considering he’s off studying his own psyche. It’ll certainly be interesting if he doesn’t remember considering the amount of things that have happened like finding out that Rachel is related to Lucy or ruining Blackfog.

How many times do you think Hyde is going to get tied or chained up in this comic at this rate?

By the end of this comic, what will the list of people who have tied up Hyde look like?

It must be concerning to confront someone you believe to be a blackmailer only for them to reveal that you might have had an affair with them and, therefore, they have the potential material to blackmail you as well.
