Only these seven states - Arkansas, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas still have these prohibitions on the books, but they hold no legal weight today thanks to the Supreme Court’s ruling on Torcaso v. Watkins (1961).
