A fire at Gallops Gas Station and Truck Stop spread to six semitrailers and destroyed four of them, the LaPorte County Sheriff's Office said Saturday.

"I believe the condition of the kittens and the deceased cat inside was due to the unsanitary conditions of Morse's home," police said.
Police said they learned a 21-year-old Portage woman arranged for the purchase of marijuana in the area of Founders Square in downtown Portage.

Police say a LaPorte man was northbound on the highway around 6:15 p.m. when there was a collision in the 4900 north block with a southbound vehicle.
"And the residence he was residing at was within close proximity to several daycare facilities which is prohibited," police said.
Tymetri Campbell pleaded guilty to murder and attempted murder in an agreement calling for him to spend the rest of his life behind bars without the chance of parole, Fagan said.
"Garcia stated that he was trying to get away from (the victim) and placed his car in reverse, causing (the victim) to be run over by his vehicle," police said.
The commander said he did have a conversation with the accused about borrowing money from the post, but was expecting much smaller amounts of around $100 on occasion, records show.
"From there, victim and Daniel began having conversations that became more 'intense,' which then led to them planning to have sexual intercourse."

Security staff collected the black bag and during an inspection found inside a smaller Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles bag that contained two plastic bags holding nearly 29 grams of what tested positive as methamphetamine, police said.
A second pursuit began and continued in multiple directions along Interstate 94 before the driver stopped, police said.
Police say a woman calling 911 reported a group of people surrounding her house looking to fight and was repeatedly overheard yelling, "Why are you on my property," before the call was disconnected.
A deputy reportedly noticed the vehicle still rolling and chased it down before it caused any property damage or injuries.
"We are extremely concerned about the increase in the number of alcohol related crashes," LaPorte County Sheriff Ronald Heeg said.
"Methamphetamine, taken alone or combined with fentanyl, contributes to the overdose crisis in the United States," the group said.
The driver allegedly handed the officer a city badge identifying himself as a 3rd Ward councilman when asked for his driver's license and registration, according to the arrest report.
When the driver asked his passenger to bond him out, the passenger responded, "I'm going to jail too bro," police said.
The pills in question, which are imprinted with an M on one side and 30 on the other, are referred to as "blues" and "perc 30s," according to police.
The troopers pursued Sassy up a snowy embankment, but she gave chase, according to police.
The driver in question reportedly left the area and police, using a license plate recognition system, located him in the downtown area of LaPorte.
A baggie was reportedly pitched from the vehicle during the pursuit.
Michigan City police and firefighters, and emergency medical personnel, responded around 7:16 a.m. Sunday to a report of an unresponsive child at a residence in the 2200 block of Normandy Drive, according to police.
