halt table even though the glyph advances are different.

Alison, could you take a look?
This looks like a font problem "Yu Gothic UI" shouldn't have halt. Also occurs with palt.

Thanks for sending this over, Koji! Assigning over to kschmi@ to help take a look.

Yu Gothic UI is assigned to system-ui, as which many websites designate their main font, in Windows for Japanese.
Microsoft must ask Jiyu Kobo to fix its broken GPOS.

Thank you for reporting the issue. It appears that both Yu Gothic and Yu Gothic UI have implemented the 'halt' feature. However, it seems more appropriate for Yu Gothic to have it, rather than Yu Gothic UI. This is because Yu Gothic UI already has narrower advances for the LEFT and RIGHT CORNER BRACKET glyphs, and further adjustment by the 'halt' implementation results in those glyphs having zero advance. Therefore, you get the overlapping text. I will get this fixed.

The characters that have to be fixed at least are U+3008–U+3011 and U+3014–U+3015.

This bug affects on Teams and Loop in Japanese Windows because they assign system-ui as font-family and use Edge WebView.

Fixed! An update for the Yu Gothic font family has been checked in. This update addresses an issue where overlapping characters appeared with the UI components of the Yu Gothic font family in online environments.
The image below shows the issue with the current font version when using Teams online on a Japanese-localized machine.
To address the issue we removed 'halt' and 'palt' OpenType features from the UI components of the fonts.
Here is the image after installing updated fonts.
I’ll collaborate with the Windows Servicing team and the Office team to ensure these fonts are available across various endpoints. I’ll share the public availability date once we have a confirmed timeline.
