I had a vague idea for this a few days ago, in which I knew I wanted him to have a little newsboy cap and a pocket watch, but I woke up this morning and everything finally clicked into place.
So!! Reasoning!! His outfit is kinda inspired by Lanyon Sir, since Elias encompasses most of the work ethic he tried to instill in Robert. Our little guy is a workaholic, so why not make him look like the working class? His clothes are all quite oversized, mainly bc I felt like it, but I suppose it can also symbolize how he never feels like he can live up to the expectations set for him (or, well, Lanyon, but you know). Always too small to fill the role made for him.
The pocket watch endlessly spins far too fast, symbolizing how he constantly feels like he's wasting time when not working or otherwise occupied. It also accentuates his solitude in the mindscape. The faint ticking drives him crazy, and adding that to his hatred of doing nothing and being alone, he really doesn't like the mindscape.
