As the shortest month of the year comes to a close, March is shaping up to bring some great theater to the Twin Cities. Here's a (nearly) comprehensive list of what you can expect to catch this month:

  • Starting this Tuesday, the Broadway play adaptation of "Life of Pi" will be coming to the Orpheum until March 9.
  • The Jungle Theater brings "The Effect" to Minneapolis, a play by Lucy Prebble, writer for HBO’s "Succession." Opening tomorrow and running through March 30, the play delves into “the medicalization of depression for profit,” as the Jungle’s website writes.
  • The Shakespearean classic, "A Midsummer Night’s Dream" enters its second month at the Guthrie Theater this weekend, running through March 23. Meanwhile, the theater is gearing up for another theater classic, Agatha Christie’s "The Mousetrap," opening March 15 and running through May.
  • The Ordway will be putting on two Broadway musicals this month, starting with "Come From Away" showing March 5-8, followed by "Dear Evan Hansen" showing March 11-16.
  • Theater in the Round’s "Legacy of Light" will run through March 16, an historical fiction play following the story of 18th century scientist and mathematician Émilie du Châtelet and a fictional 21st century physicist.
  • Theater Mu enters its first weekend with "Fifty Boxes of Earth," a creative reshaping of Bram Stoker’s "Dracula," playing through March 16 at the Park Square Theatre.
  • In collaboration with Theater Mu, the Stages Theatre Co. will be putting on the world premiere of "When You Trap a Tiger," adapted from the book by Tae Keller. Showing from March 14-30, the play follows a magical tiger and brings Korean folklore to life for audiences of all ages.
  • The Children’s Theatre Co. will be finishing up two shows this month, with both "Leonardo! A Wonderful Show About a Terrible Monster" and "Milo Imagines the World" closing on March 9.
  • The St. Paul-based Ten Thousand Things theater enters its second week of the modern-day fairy tale "This Girl Laughs, This Girl Cries, This Girl Does Nothing." The play can be seen at Hennepin Avenue United Methodist church through March 16 and at free community shows in a variety of locations through March 12.
  • Gremlin Theatre brings the Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize winning play "Proof" to St. Paul, opening on March 7 and running through March 30.
  • "Grease," in all its 1950s glory, is running at the Chanhassen Dinner Theater until October.
