firefox is trying to go from nonprofit to for profit? lmfao who do they think they are open ai?

It genuinely feels like someone is trying to destroy Firefox from within and remove the last non-Chromium browser in common use.

This is going to backfire. Most casuals use Chrome or Edge, the people who use Firefox use it because they chose to not because they use whatever is available to them. This update might upset these people and make them abandon Firefox. These changes also look like they violate the Debian Free Software Guidelines (DFSG) so it might get dropped as the default web browser from Debian and derivative distributions such as Ubuntu.

RIP Firefox. They had only 2.95% of total users vs. 64.78% for Chrome. This marks the death of the browser. Its main strength was privacy.

"We're not saying we've started selling your data! We're just no longer specifically saying we're NOT doing that." It was a great couple decades, Firefox. So long.

We have 3% of market share. (if we take the most positive interpretation possible) Let's annoy those 3%!
549
Well.... I guess my days of recommending Firefox to people is done.
155
The "Firefox may terminate your use of the browser" parts may also indicate your data is being used in some AI spyware that can ban you from Firefox or something, even if that's not until the far future. Either way, I'm noping out to a fork
53
Well that's fucking great, the one single mainstream beacon of privacy is dead.

they just admitted in their blog that they can't promise not to sell your data because they are selling your data

I hope Louis Rossmann covers this. A lot of people like myself were forced to use Firefox due to manifest v3.

What am I gonna do with my 1,700 open tabs??

It was a good run, Firefox. Time to switch to another browser, and delete my Forefox account immediately.
825
Firefox lived long enough to see itself become the villain. Time to switch to a fork

The linux users numbers are close to the firefox marketshare... that says everything. Now I want to see all linux distributions change the default browser on their installations.

When these companies try to backtrack and explain what they've done, they always mention "there is some confusion", every single time. There is absolutely NO confusion, you added or removed this from your terms of service clear as day. Companies constantly trying to gaslight us into thinking we're the ones that are confused.

Librewolf time.

Firefox to me as a security professional was one of the last free software browser that wasn't embedded with tons of spooky code that both Chrome and Edge had from the beginning. Im worried this isn't going to end well for them. Or me.
840
firefox is evolving , just backwards . we are going from the days of google trying not to be evil to FIREFOX OF ALL SOFTWARES doing this bullshit , the problem isn't really with the companies but rather with us since we keep bearing with this

In the ToS they assert they can terminate the use of Firefox for any user for any reason. Free as in freedom indeed.
343
its called intrapreneurship. learned that in undergrad organisational psychology. its about a competitor getting hired and covertly destroying the company from within.
5
This reminds me of when google quietly removed the “don’t be evil” slogan

My friend read this as: "We already have no market share and the web is actually slower and less effective with our browser, we just wanted to make sure it completely dies this time."
293
Firefox going straight to 0 usage now
338
The most shocking grab here is that they can claim to use anything you enter into firefox any way they want. Personal data, work data, questions, emails anything
519
Everytime I switch browsers it becomes “the bad one” 😅
14
Chromium monoculture is extremely dangerous to open standards. Firefox is the last stand against it until Ladybird matures. Use Waterfox, Librewolf, Icecat, whatever...just not Firefox proper.

AI really is the worst thing to happen to the internet since pop up ads.

So my passwords are also their property? And all the confidential information that I might write to boss via email?
574
Well this was the kick I needed to switch to LibreWolf
192
This is like when Google changed their motto from “Do no evil”
1
This feels like a fever dream
7
...so they want to train AI off everything we type and input while using a firefox browser....I think I need to uninstall fire fox. LibreWolf we ride!

Two years ago I switched from Chrome to Firefox in large part because the based cat told me Manifest V3 was coming and I saw the writing on the wall. Now I just switched from Firefox to Librewolf because the cat told me the fox was becoming a spook and I saw the writing on the wall. Praise be to the cat. 🙀

You will own nothing and be happy.

How is Mozilla able to stop someone from using Firefox? Maybe they can stop the aspects of it that use a Mozilla account (like syncing, I guess)... But that doesn't stop browser use.
20
I used firefox for about 20 years, it was my first choice for every computer I've owned, and recently was what I started picking for every mobile device. As soon as I heard about this absolute dystopian nightmare of a change I swapped to Librewolf and Brave on everything.
