HURON TWP. — A vehicle went off road and crashed near Ohio 2 at the Huron River Bridge Thursday afternoon.
At approximately 2:20 p.m., first responders were called to a report of a vehicle that crashed near the Ohio 2 Huron River Bridge.
They arrived to find a 32-year-old Lakewood man had driven his SUV between east and westbound bridge spans while he was traveling east, according to a media release from the Sandusky post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The SUV went down an embankment and overturned, landing on its roof in the bog under the bridge.
The man was wearing his seatbelt, according to the release, and he was taken to a local hospital by Huron EMS for treatment of minor injuries.
He was issued a citation as a result of the crash, however, the release does not state what the charge is.
First responders closed Ohio 2 eastbound between Ohio 13 and Berlin Road, and dispatchers said the road would be backed up for traffic while crews removed the car's wreckage.
Later, one eastbound lane was reopened while a tow truck with a crane extricated the crashed vehicle from the marsh.
Both eastbound lanes were then reopened just after 5:15 p.m.
