If your day has been difficult, or if you’re feeling anxious, here’s some Cornish medicine to ease your heart. It might not change things much but hopefully a moment of calm will help in a small way. May your evening be peaceful, my friends. 😊

It seems there was a dinner at the WH where a military choir serenaded the orange turd and his guest with a rendition of One Day More from Les Miserables, and the ignorant fools loved it. This is what happens when you don’t read. People mock you to your face. 😹

BREAKING: CHAOS at HUD HQ in DC this morning—mandatory return to office starts, and for 5 whole minutes, this diabolical video loops on every screen in the building. Staff panics, running floor to floor yanking plugs because no one knows how to turn it off. Unreal. fox56news.com/hill-politic...

Maybe corny but it was helpful for me to hear Henry Rollins saying "this is not time to be dismayed, this is punk rock time, this is what Joe Strummer trained you for... You can be thunderous in your own life, to the eight people around you. That rubs off... Goodness is viral"
Watching Joy Reid for the last time on MSNBC and this is my last time watching this network. Enough is enough. I am so pissed at MSNBC.
Watching that video of the army choir sing Les Mis, and fully expecting them to sing "Will you join in our crusade to keep the lobster from this pot?", because John Mulaney has poisoned my brain
James Webb Satellite took a fantastic shot of the Planet Saturn with it's Near Infrared Camera (NIRCam) and the Mid-Infrared Instrument (MIRI). This is just an Amazing shot that shows the planet and the rings in brilliant detail.

Red foxes help to control populations of their prey animals, such as rodents and rabbits. They also disperse seeds by eating fruit. In some areas where foxes had been killed off, rodents increased so much that farmers brought in other foxes. Please be kind.
RAISING ARIZONA is on and I keep thinking of Joel Coen saying if they made that movie now it would cost twice as much to look half as good.
Graduating during the pandemic slowed down my process and is part of why I did two postdocs. Now as a first year faculty, all the federal grants are frozen. I love the work I do but this has all of us questioning how much www.science.org/content/arti...

NEW HUBBLE IMAGE OF THE VEIL NEBULA AND IT’S GORGEOUS!!! 🌌✨
A colourful, glowing nebula that reaches beyond the top and bottom of the image. It is made of translucent clouds of gas: wispy and thin with hard edges in some places, and puffy and opaque in others. Blue, red and yellow colours mix together, showing light emitted by different types of atoms in the hot gas. Bright and pointlike stars are scattered across the nebula. The background is black.

The Canadian Rockies are home to some of this planet's most spectacular mountain scenery. Radiating clouds reflect the last light of day onto beautiful turquoise Peyto Lake & surrounding mountains. True to its name, the mountains of the Endless Chain end at the edge of the world.
Still enjoying PARADISE, but the slow creepy covers of 80s hits are really not working for me. And I say this as the target audience for slow creepy covers of 80s hits.
So, the video of the US army choir singing “Do You Hear the People Sing?” at the Govenors Ball TO the pres is real. And I am DECEASED. (It was shared by Dan Scavino on his Twitter account.)
I don’t know, Dan Bongino as FBI Deputy Director is pretty horrible, but it is going to be hilarious when him and Kash Patel eventually start trying to destroy each other.
Hell yes. Its time to put all our energy into breaking the weakest link. Get fucked, Elmo.
I feel like the “rising tension” portion of this movie’s score has been playing in the background for like 10 years now
a friend reminded me today that Roberta was the first artist to win back to back Record of the Year Grammys with “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" in 1972 and "Killing Me Softly With His Song" in 1973 I love the 70s. RIP dear Roberta
It’s Dr. Teresa Borrenpohl. They keep leaving off the “Dr.” Pay attention to how Idaho & the msm media infantilize her, calling her a “little girl” and ignoring her academic achievements. None of that is on accident.
A lot of attention gets paid to the great writing and acting in THE WHITE LOTUS but I also want to emphasize how much the show works just because it looks and sounds great. The show is a consistent pleasure to look at and hear in a way most TV shows aren't.

Roberta Flack, the Grammy-winning singer and pianist whose intimate vocal and musical style on “Killing Me Softly with His Song” and other hits made her one of the top recordings artists of the 1970s and an influential performer long after, has died.
🔭 💥This week the lifts the veil on a famous — and frequently photographed — supernova remnant: the Veil Nebula. This nebula is the remnant of a star roughly 20 times as massive as the Sun that exploded about 10 000 years ago!

"Peatlands are important carbon stores, important habitat for many different species, but what sets them apart is their ability to capture carbon from the atmosphere & store it for thousands of years" - Lorna Harris, Dir. of our Forests, Peatlands & Climate Change Program, speaking with CTV News 🧵🌎
Gamer friends hadn't heard Fast Car and knew absolutely nothing about Drake/Kendrick. I don't want to overreact. But sometimes I get the sense that while we all live on the same blue planet, there are billions of different worlds that we inhabit, each mutually-impenetrable to all the others.
The worst thing about community management is the constant pressure I feel to understand anime
Caddyshack is a perfect 70’s movie because the true protagonist is simply the concept of Being Horny

Making Avowed into a culture war issue is a stretch even for those guys. It sold well. Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 sold and reviewed well too. Not sure what people want. Even if you think it's mid, which I disagree with, the logic behind their weird conspiracy theory is a huge stretch.

If you are cast as a straight man or romantic lead in black and white comedies alongside your brothers just because your parents were in the industry, you are a Zeppo baby, and yes I know this stinks, but if I had to think it, YOU have to think it.

Um, why did they put VHS filters on old movies when some of them aren't even supposed to be horror? 🤔
Talking Heads are infinitely better than the vast majority of bands from the 70s & 80s. Pass it on.
RIP Roberta Flack. Your song, The First Time I Ever Saw Your Face, was my deceased parents' relationship song and they smiled to each other every time they heard it. Every time I hear it, I think of them. Thank you.

NASA has released a new image of Uranus taken by the Webb Space Telescope. The photo taken this time can clearly see 11 of the 13 outer rings of Uranus. In the past, only the Voyager 2 probe and the Keck Observatory have successfully captured it, and it has never been as clear as the Webb telescope.

A down-canyon view of Zion Canyon in winter from Angel's Landing, through a large, gnarled, downward-bent branch. The sky is mostly cloudy, with a hint of blue at the horizon where the most distant peaks fade to a deeper blue. The sun's light is diffused through the clouds, except just at the point where it rests on the branch (top right), glimmering pale gold.

A grayscale NIRCam image of NGC 3147, a spiral galaxy with a prominent central bulge and tightly wound spiral arms. The bright core of the galaxy transitions to a fainter, more diffuse halo. The spiral arms show subtle texture and hints of star formation regions, indicated by slightly brighter, mottled areas. The image is set against a dark background with a few scattered stars visible.

Common Side Effects is such a fantastic work. It’s so visually stunning. I get overwhelmed with excitement I get when I watch it.
it's kinda funny how as far as "cool thing everyone wants from a franchise" goes lightsabers have very little going on most things in that genre are defined by being unique and personal and also being able to do a lot of stuff
Nothing else sounded like those two monster hits Roberta Flack had in the early 70s, Killing Me Softly and The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face. It was an age when it was standard to sing songs others wrote-- and making them into your own was the feat. She certainly did. She won over everyone.
Stereum mushroom sharing a dance with its hair moss friend.
An orange stereum mushroom that has been curled up more or less into the shape of an ice cream cone, except the front is still a bit open. Through that front, a tuft of moss has grown into the mushroom, and it looks like the moss is embraced by it.

Another shot of the Great Egret from yesterday. Love the pussyfooting! 🪶
A Great Egret, a tall white bird with long legs, long neck and long yellow bill. This one is walking in shallow water on mud at low tide. Stepping forward. I'm looking down on it slightly, background is muddy water, not strong sunlight, but hazy, giving it a little backlight around the neck and tail, and shadows of the legs are visible in the water, and a perfect reflection of the raised foot as it steps froward - held in the air as it checks for movement, which might mean food.

Something i find tiring is media subverting tropes JUST to be subversive. There's usually no substance & it's just for bragging rights Shrek & Beauty &the Beast BOTH work at subverting tropes (Can anyone love a monster? Who's the real monster?) despite differences in tone bc both stories have heart
