About us
The European Christian Political Movement (ECPM) is the only European political party in the European Parliament explicitly working on promoting Christian values in politics. We gather almost 100 Christian-democratic parties, individuals and organizations from all over Europe, which makes us the biggest Christian political network. ECPM is not affiliated to any of the groups in the European Parliament, but our MEPs sit with the ECR and EPP groups. In short, we stand for: - a Europe of human dignity - an economy that works for people and planet - healthy families and healthy marriages - freedom, security and stability - fighting human trafficking - reforming the European Union - preserving Christian culture & heritage We aim to reflect and work on Christian-democratic policies in Europe from an explicit Christian-social view. We focus on the human being in his relationship with God, other people and the creation. We see this relational thinking as the heart of Christian democracy. Parties, think tanks and individual politicians can participate in a broad range of ECPM activities such as conferences, seminars and trainings, and be involved in the further development of ECPM. In 2010, ECPM has been granted official status at the European level by the European Parliament. ECPM aims to become more visible in European politics and to become active in the European political debates. With our distinctive Christian-democratic profile, we are certain we can offer constructive new ideas for the future of Europe. Important for the European Parliament elections: After we launched the Code of Conduct for fair campaigning 👇 with European Commission Vice-President Věra Jourová and the European political parties this week, 2 months ahead of the elections, the code of conduct is now open for endorsement by every national political party participating in the upcoming European Parliament elections in June. So proud that International IDEA facilitated the process! We now need national parties to step up too, fostering fair democratic debates and transparent campaigning leading up to the elections. Yesterday, one national party took the lead by signing the code of conduct: Hats off to the Christian Democrats in Finland (DK) – Who will be the next to join? The code of conduct includes many important commitments, but I would highlight the parties' commitment to the principles of truth and accuracy and to countering mis-and disinformation during their campaigns. This is essential considering the important challenges democracy is facing globally, but also in Europe. It was of high priority to several European political parties and the European Commission. I also consider article 6 of the essence of the code of conduct, which is on transparent online political advertising. The promised transparency will provide more clarity to citizens who see or receive political advertising about the source of the advertising, and it will allow for better monitoring of campaigns. Any feedback regarding the text is welcome! On a personal note, leading the development and negotiation of the code of conduct with the Commission and the Europarties on behalf of International IDEA was a truly special experience. I am grateful to my superiors and the Commission Vice-President for entrusting me with this role, and especially to Zuzana Dorazilova of the Vice-President’s Cabinet, who was a driving force and sparring partner throughout the process.
