Longtime Connecticut banker Nick Caplanson says he will step down as CEO of Norwich-based Dime Bank at the end of the year as he heads into retirement.

Caplanson has led Dime Bank for 14 years, and during that time the bank has doubled its assets to $1.2 billion. He also led Dime Bank’s expansion into Greater Hartford with new branches in Colchester, Glastonbury, Manchester and Vernon.

The bank has 14 branches overall, including one in Westerly, Rhode Island.

Caplanson will relinquish his president's title as of Oct. 1, and step down as CEO at the end of the year. After that, he will continue to serve as the bank’s board chairman.

Taking over the Dime’s top leadership post will be Nicholas J. Statoulas, who is currently the bank’s executive vice president and chief operating officer.

Statoulas joined Dime Bank in 2018 and assumed his current role in 2024.

“It has been a genuine pleasure to lead a team of professionals that is dedicated to our customers and communities in a manner that goes far beyond banking,” Caplanson said. “With a solid foundation in the markets we serve and a management team that should continue to prosper under Nick’s leadership, I am extremely confident that moving forward, we are positioned to build on our growth as a bank in new and exciting ways.”

Statoulas began his banking career in 1996 and has spent nearly 30 years in community banking, previously working at Rockville Bank and United Bank before joining Dime.

“Having spent my whole career in community banking, I know the value that a locally-based bank can have in helping communities thrive and am committed to making sure that we continue the Dime tradition of serving and giving back in this way under my direction,” Statoulas said.
